How exactly does PBW proceed turns ? |
Hello.
Im just intrested to know how does it work. I mean there is no such thing as "dedicated server" in SE4/5, so how sent saved games get loaded in SE on server and proceded ?

Re: How exactly does PBW proceed turns ?
A lot of Java and JSP code and a database of some sort (I think it's Postgres or maybe MySQL)... I don't know exactly how it works but at the heart of it it's just queueing up a bunch of calls to SE5's command-line turn processing. Geoschmo could answer better than I could, as he's the current maintainer of the PBW code...
You looking to write the next PBW, or just curious?

There is also a "runturns" cheat code you can use - you might want to try that for even quicker AI testing

You either download the zipped save file to play the turn and upload the created .plr file with your orders, or you do the same via email instead of http.
It is possible to create a game with TCP/IP mode, for direct connection between players, but it is rather quirky. SE isn't a game well suited to having everyone sit down together for hours to play turns at the same time, especially as the game progresses and time requirements for each turn increase.
