Exception EOutOfResources in module SE5.exe |
I installed patch 1.58 a few days ago and played without any problems several times. Tonight, I try to start the game and, immediately after clicking the "Play" button on the startup screen, I get the following error:
"Exception EOutOfResources in module SE5.exe at 0001ACB4.
The window does not have scroll bars."
What does this error mean?
Anyway, I click OK on this error window and get a second error:
"Access violation at address 004093C in module 'SE5.exe. Read of address 7228AE84"
What could have happened between the last time I played and now? I haven't installed or uninstalled anything, and I always close all background tasks, antivirus, etc, before playing.
Anybody else having this problem? What can I do?
EDIT: I just uninstalled the game, deleted all my modifications, reinstalled the game plus patch 1.58. I did not reinstall any of my minor modifications, and I still get the same error message!! Is there anything I can try to edit in the Windows Registry? (I notice the Registry entries were not removed after uninstallation by the way...)
This is on Windows XP.
Thanks for any help.
Re: Exception EOutOfResources in module SE5.exe
I got a similar error after I installed the previous patch. What I did, after reinstalling the game and the patch, I restarted my computer and then the game worked like a charm.
Hopefully this will help.
Re: Exception EOutOfResources in module SE5.exe
The problem is persistent across reboots and power cycles on my machine.
Interesting, but probably useless article about EOutOfResources found by Google.

Re: Exception EOutOfResources in module SE5.exe
I get the same error on win2k. Uninstalling, removing registry entries, and reinstalling does not help.
What did help for me was editing DebugSettings.txt, and changing the following lines:
After this change, the game starts with no trouble. If I change the entries in DebugSettings.txt back to FALSE, the game fails to start with "The window does not have scroll bars."
I have no idea why this works, but it is 100% reproducible on my machine.
