Technologically advanced = Evil? |
So I'm playing balance mod 1.10, I'm technologically advanced, far beyond the AI players, and none of them will accept the slightest treaty from me. I've gifted them & such. 2 of them actually declared war on me with no provocation at all, within a few turns of first contact. I haven't attacked so much as one ship (my exploratory vessels are cloaked, so no "accidents" etc), and all my weaponry is in planetary defenses (no mines, wormhole satellites, nothing away from my own colonies). Now my colonies are starting to riot. Is merely being higher up the tech tree sufficient for the AI to hate/fear you?
So to summarize: What exactly does lower the AIs impression of you (beyond outright hostility)?
What file might be modified to change how the AI perceives the player? Or at least which file would i need to change to keep my own population from freaking out about "having no treaties"?
Re: Technologically advanced = Evil?
Yeah, the Mega Evil Empire bit is a little annoying, had an SE IV game about go down the drain because of it.
About 2/5 of the way down settings.txt is where the stuff for the Mega Evil Empire things are at.
//---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Allow Export of Weapon And Component Data := False
Create Log Text Files for Players := False
Create Log Text File for Game := False
Intelligence Defense Modifier Percent := 120
Ram Ship Source Modifier Percent := 60
Ram Ship Target Modifier Percent := 100
AI Uses Mega Evil Empire := True
AI Mega Evil Empire Threshold Score Thousands := 500
AI Human Mega Evil Empire Score Percent := 170
AI Computer Mega Evil Empire Score Percent := 250
Home System Percentage Value With No Spaceport := 25
Create Combat Replay := True
Just change the True to False, and the AI races will stop being ignorant bigoted fear mongering hypocrites just because someone is better than them.
Also, notice the AI can have a race get much more of a 'lead' over other races before the other races get ticked off. Not fair at all.
I'm presently toying around with the % all set at 500, so it takes a lot of advantage before everyone else absolutely takes actions, and so the same applies to AI races as well.
Now, if jealousy, envy, or fear were involved, that's one thing, but not simply due to a power gap, partly why I changed the settings the way I did, it sort of made sense in some ways, although I might just switch it to false the next time I start a new game if I have to much problem with the MME factor.
A weak power should be just as likely to want to be friendly with their all mighty neighbors, either due to wanting to be part of something great, or simply NOT wanting to tick off a power that might have the leader yawn, press a button, and result in stars starting to explode within a few months...
Re: Technologically advanced = Evil?
Yeah, AI players don't like you if you are sufficiently high enough to whoop there asses.
The only beef i have with mega evil empire is that you can't threaten AI players in to joining you when you have 2000000000 ships orbiting their last planet. They will fight you to self annihilation.

Re: Technologically advanced = Evil?
I can't stand MEE... The AI should just want a trade treaty and a tithe from a more powerful empire.
I also gave up giving gifts, unless specifically requested, since (even without MEE) the AI will break a treaty a turn after a gift without batting an eyelash.

Re: Technologically advanced = Evil?
Look for the "Mega Evil Empire" settings in Settings.txt . That can be triggered by a sufficiently high overall score.
The effects of (not) having treaties are in Happiness.txt .
(Note that these are the file names in SEIV; I don't have SEV yet to check whether they changed.)
