Trouble With Ship Sets

Hi. I have recently downloaded the newest patch for Space Empires V, and I am trying to download different shipsets for it. I have several different ones. The ones i have on this computer are as follows: arackterra, breen, xoronn, and the SW Empire. They refuse to work with the game and i was wondering why. I downloaded them from uner the Catagories & Links page at http://home.spaceempires.net/downloads-cat-38-0-ordertitleA-10.html#categorystart. I typed in Space Empires V / Ship Sets into the Category bar and dowloaded what I thought i would like to incorporate into the game. It specifically says ship sets, but i can not make them work with Space Empires V, version 1.58. I was wondering if anyone could give me any advice as to how to make them work. Thanks.

What's with the 1 minute bump?

The 1.58 patch changed how a few AI scripts operate, thus invalidating old compiled script files. The easiest way to get custom shipsets to work is to replace their script files (.csf) with scripts from a working stock race.

I have not been able to find any that will be compatable with the newest version. Where do i find them, and how do i change them?

You change them by copying in the .csf files from a stock shipset, as I said...

I'm having some trouble with this as well. Following Kwok's instructions for installing optional shipsets into the Balance Mod we changed the two scripts both to default/default. . . which refer, I think, to the default scripts in his BM1.10. Since this was compiled after 1.58 came out I would have thought they would work. Are we saying that we have to change the script call out in the stock empires folder for them to work in the balance mod? Or are we saying that the default scripts in BM1.10 don't work?

I didn't see any reference to any mods, so it would seem stock usage is the question here.

Well, the shipsets don't work with BM1.10, as Kwok has acknowledged, so my question still stands.

I don't use shipsets (yet) but I intent to *someday* and I have a naive question: "shouldn't the modders themselves update their shipsets after investing so much effort and time in making them?"

most of the posted shipsets are for ancient versions of the game and it's most unlikely that anyone would not update his game to the latest version, so that makes shipsets obsolete. In fact that's the very reason I haven't downloaded them.

Another idea would be for someone else to post current versions of all shipsets with credit to the original maker. It's something that happens all the time in other games. Given the nature and structure of this game this is logical and I don't think they would object giving permission.

I'm not going to take it upon myself to police out of date script files in shipsets...

Harmonious Hegemony, I'm not really sure what your question is. The AI scripts in the Balance Mod work, and doing what Kwok says will make the new shipset function as an AI race (or with ministers) properly in the BM. You definitely don't want to copy AI scripts from a stock race into the Balance Mod empires folder... You'd either want to change references to Default\Default as Kwok suggests, or copy scripts from a Balance Mod empire folder.
