ship question |
Most likely the answer for this is no but I'm going to find out anyway. As I'm often saying one of the things I liked from IV that isn't in V is the ship levels.. ie: light, medium and heavy varients of the ship types. So I got to wondering, is it possible to have multiple ships in the same group. In other words, when I go to the creater to make a new ship I could have a choice of 2 or 3 designs for say frigates. I miss the variety.... espcially with figheters!

Re: ship question
If you mean multiple actual hulls for fighters you'd have to set up 3 different fighters; with them being made available at different levels of fighter research. It would be set up just like it was in SE4.

Re: ship question
Ironically, Last night I started my first ever modding in SEV and this is exactly what I was doing.
I've got it set up with a Light, Standard and Heavy variant of each class. The trick has been trying to tweak the combat performance of each ship.
My take on it will be that we have a standard hull of said size class. The lighter variant will out perform the Standard and Heavy sizes. The Heavy variant will under perform the Standard and Light size. The Heavy variant will also under perform the next size class up's Light and Standard sizes.
This way you can make a Heavy Frigate that out weighs a destroyer, BUT its performance is way under the Destroyers. This represents adding extras onto a already existing hull type basically exceeding its design specs resulting in lower performance. What makes it nice is that you get a heavier ship without researching the next class up if you don't mind the reduced performance.
I have the Acceleration, Decel and turning near where I want it. Just working on the Combat speeds to make a good balance.

Re: ship question
That feature (the multiple ship pics per hull) was never in SE4 - perhaps you are thinking of Master of Orion, or perhaps you're just thinking of the fact that SE4 had more ship hulls available than SE5 (though they did not level up)
