Using Shipsets

Submitted by WeaponX824 on Sun, 2007-10-14 13:01. Space Empires V FAQs

Sorry, people. New to the game and the forums. I've found some shipsets that look great and that I'd love to use in the game, but I haven't found any instructions anywhere on how to incorporate them.

Do they just get downloaded into a certain subdirectory? If so, which one? Are there instructions somewhere that I haven't run across?

Any advice or information would be very helpful. Thanks!

Each shipset gets a folder inside the Empires folder.

Shipsets are placed in the Empires directory.

So with my Cardassian set for example, just take the Cardassian folder in the rar you downloaded and place it in /(Installation Location)/Space Empires V/Empires/ and it should be available for play.

Bah, Fyron beat me to it. Sticking out tongue

What files move where to get them to work? How do you get the ship type file to update with the new addition?

As we said, each shipset is a self-contained folder in the Empires folder..

Ship type file?

If you're using a mod, and the mod has an 'empires' folder, a copy of the shipset needs to be there also.

And always check the mod's read-me for further information. Balance Mod requires a couple of text lines to be altered, but it's very simple to do.

You do not need a copy of the shipset in the mod, simply a blank folder of the same name. Any missing files will be filled in from the stock Empires folder. It might be a good idea to copy in the AI scripts from a race in the mod (or the default AI), however, since stock AI will likely fail to work.

I've downloaded the Cardassian shipset (looks great!) and unpacked it in the Empires subfolder. Now the ships designs are available in Empire creation interface.

But what happens with other files like Cardassian_AI_General.txt? I dont see the data contained in that file loaded in Empire Details...

Is there something else I should do?

I've done this and I still cannot play as that race. What is wrong? Please help.

AI text files are used for filling the details for randomly generated AI empires, not player empires or manually created AI empires.

Does that mean it could be possible to play using the neutrals shipset? I find it nice.

Without ammo, nice guns are just sophisticated clubs.

You can make a custom empire that uses the neutral ships by virtue of having no ship models at all.
