Having two versions installed

Submitted by evader23 on Mon, 2007-10-08 12:40. Space Empires V General

When the patch comes out. I want to upgrade to it. But I am in a multiplayer game that is on 1.44 if they don't upgrade can I have 1.44 and the new version installed so I can play both my multiplayer game and new single player games

You just need to copy your install into another folder. Give it a name like "SE:V v1.44".

Prior to applying the patch, run the copy of SE5 that you want to patch. This will update the registry path to that version and the patch will apply itself to that copy.

Couldn't you just copy the data folder into a stock 1.44 mod?

No. The v1.5x .exe will look for certain fields in the data files, particularly for settings and strategies, and will cough up errors that will not allow you to continue.
