SE V Start Issues. Anyone else fixed this?

Submitted by athelred on Tue, 2006-10-10 18:02. Space Empires V General

I have just installed se 5. After starting the program, I get a dialog that says "Range Check Error". Once OK is selected an error dialog with the text "Access violation at address 00481743 in module 'SE5.exe'. Read of address 000000EC." appears and I have to use the task manager to manually kill the process.

I have an Athlon 3200+ with 1 GB of ram and oodles of hard drive space running Windows XP Pro, and a NVIDIA 6600 video card. I have attempted to uninstall and re-install the program with no effect.

I ran the demo fine.

Any ideas would be apprerciated.

Weird.

I only get this when I attempt to save the game. The game saves anyway, and then kicks me out.

On start, I'm getting a failure to replay the movement, which is fine by me.

If you are having problems

Submitted by Warmaster on Wed, 2006-10-11 14:20.

If you are having problems running Space Empires V on a PC with a dual core processor then try this:
Launch the game. Before clicking "new game" or whatever, open the task manager, processes tab, find se5.exe, right click it, click "Processor Affinity", uncheck all but one box, click ok. You should stopped getting range check error after this.
