Shrinking Mod

As I recall MOO, the original, and think about the 'infinite' research levels in the game could a mod be created where components and facilities shrink as they go up in level?

As I recall in MOO by the end of the game a full Death Ray could be installed on a destroyer. This kept smaller ships produced in huge quantities as a viable game element even to the end.

This could also address the 'universal colonizer' concept that I saw in another post, three colonizers could be made space effective with sufficient research.

I think the way this was handled in MOO was with overall empire tech level as opposed to specific levels in specific technologies.

Any thoughts?

Infinite Research?

I haven't really paid attention in SE V but if they don't take up less space each level (as smaller ships get more space avaialbe per research also) it could easily be modded in. But I have enough things to worry about researching than to reasearch 20 levels of death ray just so it can fit on my frigate. I guess late game when you don't have as much to research and have more research income... What I find annoying and will probably mod is that even after 6 levels of light hull my frigate still has only 12 engines... It'd be nice to add some every 5 levels or so...

I haven't had much time to play game yet so maybe I'll feel a need for what your asking at a later time. I'll definately be modding ship sizes before a new game. too much research to get destroyer and it is less than my frigate (I know it will get better but...)

Yeah they systems only get

Yeah they systems only get more efficient they dont' take up less space, though ships get more hull space as their levels increase. This means that it is more effective to research a hull size then increase a specific weapon, as the larger hullsize offers more variety and just as much increase in efficiency.
