[1.44] Drones don't move in combat |
Hi.
I am having trouble with drones. My drone design for a reconnaissance drone: engines and sensors, strategy set to "Don't get hurt". The problem: the drone does not move during combat. It just stays where it started (and gets destroyed).
I am using version 1.44 (stock). As far as I can remember, my design worked with one or two of the older versions.
Am I the only one having this problem? Or is the drone for suicide missions only?
Re: [1.44] Drones don't move in combat
In stock 1.44, drones don't usually move if they aren't armed. They also need an appropriate target to be present.
It's not likely one can strat them out of this behavior due to the "ram always" code overriding the strats. I'm talking about the code discussed in this thread:

Re: [1.44] Drones don't move in combat
All that is done before the naked stars is remembered
An anti-ship drone must have at least 1 anti-ship warhead (it should be a mandatory in the design screen but it's NOT)
Same for an anti-planet.
This is a dumb rule, btw. Anti-ship drones should always attempt to ram a ship regardless of warhead or not on board, same with Anti-planet. This makes designing them much more fun (like slow ones with tons of weapons on them

Re: [1.44] Drones don't move in combat
I believe it's caused by one of the introduced strategy settings in v1.44. You can try messing around with the retreat parameters for the Don't Get Hurt strategy to alleviate the problem. The next patch will also fix this behaviour.
