Exception Access Violation

Submitted by Jedi_Nites on Fri, 2007-09-21 09:22. Space Empires V General

I keep getting an 'Exception Access Violation' error after which the game stops responding and I have to close it down.

I'm playing SEV patched to 1.44 with the BM 1.09 mod.

It happens when I have a ship selected and am trying to get it to move. The SEV mouse pointer freezes wherever I've clicked for the ship to move to and the game stops. The music keeps playing but the pointer does not move and after a minute or two the normal windows pointer appears as well, but wont let me do anything either.

I've read about a known bug where this happens when fleets are deleted but in my case its single ships and its when I try to move them. The game will have played fine from the start and then.... this.

Reloading the save game doesnt help either, the same thing will just happen again and the ship it happens with appears to be random as does the destination.

I've restarted from scratch 3 times now and I seem to get to a certain point (Year 2405.3 in this one) and can get no further.

Any ideas anyone?

Send the savegame with your description of the problem to MM and include your system specifications. Even if you get no immediate answer the bug might be fixed in the next patch.

What Q suggested is a good idea. A reproducible exception error with a save game is always helpful for debugging!

I'll be happy to do that if someone would give me an idiots step by step guide how to.

Thanks

Send an e-mail to with your .gam file (in your save game folder) attached to the e-mail. If the .gam file is kind of large, you might want to send it as a .zip (compressed) file. If you're not familiar with .zip files, if you right-click on the file in Windows XP, use the "Send To" option and pick compressed folder to make it a .zip.
