Will the AI use new ship sizes and new components?

Hi, I don't know if this has been discussed before, but I couldn't find it. If so, sorry.

If I create a new ship, component or mount and add it at the end of the data file, will the AI "notice" it? Will the computer players use the new components or build the new ships?

Thanks.

They'll use the new mounts if valid, and might use the new component depending on what abilities it has. They should also use new ships as well.

Don't you have to mod the empire script AI to get them to use new ship sizes, components and combinations? I know the current script looks for the 'highest' level of component with ability type 'x', but I've noticed this isn't very reliable.

I've had to implement additions into the empire scripts to get them to use ship sizes, components and fighter types, otherwise they build only within the stock set of components and ship types.

There are some things the AI looks for by specific component name when making its ship designs. Notably weapons.

What I want to do is play a "Stargate Atlantis" game. So I will have to make the starbase (Atlantis) available in the beggining and maybe a special mount to decrease its cost so that I can build it quickly in the beggining. I'm worried that all empires will start building starbases straight away...

I think I will start a game (after the next patch is available) and check after a few turns if the AI is building starbases.

Couldn't you try starting with more tech, and maybe use a 3-planet start to generate more income?

Might have to mod the amounts available for starting tech so it comes out closer to what you want, but other than that I don't think you need a mod for this.

I prefer to start with low techs and only 1 planet. In this case I will make an exception for the starbase.
I'm really busy this month. But when I start the game I will check how much tech/resources/planets I need...
