Honorverse mod?

Submitted by ltchobs on Sat, 2007-09-08 10:29. Space Empires V General

Hello,

New to the forum and game but was wondering if there is a Honorverse mod to SE V or IV? Didn't see one listed in the projects section...thought I'd ask.

There was always talk about making one for SE:IV, but I don't think anyone ever made a tangible product.

Wouldn't it be great to blast the "Peeps"?

I'm a huge Honorverse fan myself. I would LOVE to see an Honorverse mod... Smiling

You have reached an imaginary number. Please rotate your phone 90 degrees and try again.

In SEV you still run in to problems with not being able to roll the ship, so it simulates the invincibility of the Belly/top.
The problem of the front and aft of the ship open to space, right now the shield is a bubble. .

Last but not least is the stand off range of the warheads used. -- I can see getting past this using drones, if MM every gets to fixing them, give them a bunch of short range beam weapons that take forever to reload or MM gives us the ability to assign the destroyed on use to any component. But Its much more doable than in SEIV.

Don't get me wrong I love the Honorverse my self and would love to see a good mod that keeps with the spirt of the books.

Umm...well I was mainly concerned about the shipsets, but now that you mention it would be even better to have the same type of physics...in addition to 'rolling' would also need to consider 'turnover', momentum (there's a question, why don't ships in SEV just keep going in this game if engines are knocked out?), 3d play battlefield, etc...

They do have a minitures game called 'Saganami Island tactical trainer' that someone may be able to convert one day and would love to have a game like that built or to help build it...but my treecat will not let me.

I did find a 'star kingdom of manticore' shipset for SEIV but nothing for SEV.

Guess I'll either have to be happy with what I've got or build it...I would rather have this (good) game vice a 'bad' game based in a Honorverse.

Thanks for the feedback

This setting has never had enough support in any game mod.

Its a good book no doubt, but balancing missiles and energy weapons would be a chore. Most battles would simply turn into long range missile fights, a special AI would need to be crafted...

Missles vs lasers/grasers...well we kind of already have that debate but I see where you're going...of course being able to 'roll pods' on a Task Force of SuperDreadnoughts and let lose a massive (2000+) swarm of missles would be cool! Well cool if you're doing the releasing of course...not so cool if on the receiving end.

If I was any good at programing/modding I'd start working on this...once I learned more about the game physics. Of course I'm not good at programing/modding so this will be a long term project for me...another in a long list, sigh.

Question in general for anyone who reads this, how responsive are the game designers...would they be willing to make an 'official' mod?

I've done some ground work for an Honorverse mod first for SEIV, then SEV, but I couldn't really figure out a good way to simulate the invulnerable wedge portion, nor the open wedge at the front and rear of the ship. I'm sure if I put some more time into it, there is a way between the weapons data files, and the armor/shield data files to simulate something.

PES (President Elect Shang) did something unusual for his Solar Flare mod, where if the engines were intact, then the weapons did 90% less damage or something to that effect. When the engines were destroyed, the drive field is no longer protecting the ship, and then full damage from missiles would take effect.

The main thing is that David Weber protects his IP very strictly, and frowns apon anything that might infringe on his work, an that included video games, and mods for games.

So it would be best not to call it an Honorverse mod.

The biggest problem with me and the modding, is that when I first started, SEV was relatively unplayable, and without making good AI, the mod will have little weight. I haven't played SEV much in the last 6 months, and have actually been playing in a PBC game of SEIV. Yet I've been getting the itch to start up the mod work for this, and an SFB mod.

Directed damage, new positions "front","back",side, 0kt components placable only there (for each of these one) providing protection?

Wish I could help you Kana, I'm good at the management side of projects, unfortunately not a tech guy so my programing stills are limited...

I can see the IP protection question/problem but Lucas and Paramount do the same for Star Wars/Star Trek but look at the abundance of those...umm...wonder if he has been aproached...Kana do you know from personal experience or is your information second hand?

As I said, if this is done it should be done right not by half measures...(aka Stormship Troopers...what a waist) so this may not be the forum to work it but the SEV engine with modifications may be a good place to start...umm.

Might do some publisher contacting, see where the line in the sand is...more on this later.
