Problem with combat. |
I started playing this again recently and is there any reason why combats are not ending after I invade a planet? Its extremely annoying that its doing this. I have to set all my ships to stay put when attacking a planet because they will fire until the troops get on there, THEN when the troops do land I have to wait until the combat to end through time and make sure my many fighters and other ships do not run off screen.
Anyone know why it would do this?
Re: Problem with combat.
You can avoid retreat if you set the corresponding ship/unit strategy options for "attacking" to "never" retreat.
Likewise you can avoid firing at the planet by chosing "don't engage or "fire till all weapons gone" in the strategy for "planet with colony". But as you probably will use "break formation" for your invasion fleet you must do this for all individual strategies your ships have.
Re: Problem with combat.
Clever idea there. "Never retreat" isn't practical for general use, but for a one-shot affair it could just do the trick.
Could also play around with the retreat behavior. I'm thinking "stay near combat ships" (something like that) might help if it's functional.
The ships will stop firing on the planet as soon as the first troops land, and you really don't want them hanging around too close to an armed planet. The problem is that there's no simple way to get them to withdraw to a safe distance because they have no idea what a 'safe distance' is. They only have two speeds: engage or withdraw.

Re: Problem with combat.
They retreat when they have no targets, basically. I'm sending an email to MM right now, and this is one of the subjects of the email.
Can't say what the odds are it'll get fixed, but there's hope.
