Adding a new hull - that all empires can use

I'm stepping up my boldness in the newstuff mod and i've hit a roadblock.
I'll explain first what i'm trying to accomplish and then where i'm getting stuck:

I'm trying to make a researchable technology that will grant a new hull "Pretorian Cruiser".
This new hull is going to have it's own model.

Where I'm getting stuck. Looking into the file for vehiclesizes, there are a bunch of settings that dictate where to find the files. They all start with [%EmpireName%]. Now for the default hulls, that just pulls the details for the empire you've chosen.
However if I set that to a particular empire the game says can't find file.

I don't want to put a full path in there. Does anyone know of a string that points to the game directory?

The data files should not make reference to specific shipsets... if a race is missing a model for a particular hull, it should be filled in from the generic set automatically.

when you create the new hull size, the settings/file associations are set up as primary, secondary and alternate (something like that anyway), the very last one should at least be a common hull/picture/x.file that is common to all shipsets. This way if a shipset doesn't have that particular size hull it will default to the next closest hull size determined by you in the vehicle size data file.

That is exactly what i'm trying to make happen.

I'm adding a full tech tree that can be found in a ruin. One of the researchable technologies will unlock a couple of hulls. I also want to be able to use custom models with those hulls (so you can tell em apart).

Do you know of any trick that might help Fyron?

I'm gonna add the hull to all empires. It's an altered Norak Cruiser and want to get this tech tree off the ground.
