Shield Regenerators

Submitted by Kenquinn on Sun, 2006-10-08 14:55.
Project:Space Empires V
Version:1.08
Component:Code
Category:bug
Priority:normal
Assigned:Unassigned
Status:closed

Description

I have noticed that the shield regenerator regenerates shield points at a much slower rate then the rate listed in the tech description. The regenerates rate it says a level 40 Shield Regenerator regenerates shield at is 88 points a second. The rate that it regenerates at is closer to 88 points a minute.

I have tested shield regenerators with both of the shield types in the demo. I have only tested this bug with level 40 shield regenerators. Most of my test have been done with a single shield regenerator and at normal combat speed. I have also done speed tests with up to 10 shield regenerators adding extra regenerators increased the regeneration rate by the expected amount.

Whats the benefit in such

Submitted by Z12LAZARUS on Sun, 2006-10-08 21:07.

Whats the benefit in such slow regeneration? I mean, when you use the "alltech" cheat, most weapons do 1000s of damage.

Shield Regenerators

Submitted by Rilbur on Sun, 2006-10-08 22:21.

Shield regenerators were just as useless in stock SEIV, dunno why they aren't powered up more... I'm guessing I'm missing something.

Typeos

Submitted by AngleWyrm on Mon, 2006-10-09 07:53.

If the space would always be better spent on another shield, then the technology is useless. The only reason to buy such a technology would be to enhance the hp of a ship during combat. Which usually lasts for under a minute after the shooting starts.

It could be that it's a typo in the implementation. Shields recharge between turns anyway, yes? And isn't the implementation just as easy to fix? It's just a formula in a text file:

Ability 1 Amount 2 Formula := 10 + (([%Level%] - 1) * 2)

Normal shields at level-20 (when regenerator first becomes available) provide 480 hp each. Phased shields have 150 at that time. The regenerator adds only 10 hp per minute (effectively the full length most engagements). It would take forty eight shield regenerators to compare to normal shields, or fifteen to compare with phased. That's a lot of tonnage. Instead of 960 tons, I'll just buy two more 30-ton shields.

Question: Is the shield regenerater's contribution on a shipwide basis or a per shield basis? If a vessel has four shields, can it contribute up to four times the regen rate (depending on how many are actually damaged)? When does it get applied to the shields?

Sheild Regenerators

Submitted by Master Vitro on Mon, 2006-10-09 08:52.

Most defenses are useless beacause the weapons do so much more damage now! The meson blaster in the demo is now one of the most powerful for it doing 3k for only 60kt (Massive Mount) Which can take out two sheild generators 80kt with only one shot!

Plus: I think the sheild regenerators suck in SEV but, in SEIV, my friend always made prety good defensive ships by adding the regenerators, but of course I always beated him since i like to use Null-space projectors, despite their short range.

Balance Mod?

Submitted by Captain Kwok on Mon, 2006-10-09 09:05.

If only there were a mod soon to be available that would fix stuff like that.

Especially if it helps

Submitted by StarHunter5 on Mon, 2006-10-09 12:51.

Nothing wrong in promoting his balance Mod, Especially if it helps and fixes the problems.
I could go into the game and try to fix some of this but it would be alot of Hit and Miss, It makes much more sense to use HIS mod since he has been working on it for such a long time. (one can always tweek it afterwards, if needed.
He does seem to have a good feel for the game.

I have NOTHING against self promotion.

I also have nothing - at all! - against steasing someone mercilessly for it.

Shield Regenerators are

Submitted by Fishman on Fri, 2006-11-17 04:58.

Shield Regenerators are incorrectly typed in the componentdata file: Swapping Amount 1 with Amount 2 appears to fix them and makes them regenerate correctly.
