Some Colonies are not being Domed...

Submitted by Indiana on Wed, 2007-08-29 06:54. Space Empires V FAQs

I have just started playing the game and reading the forum off and on for help. During some practice games using the Balance Mod, I noticed that some (not all) hostile environments (not all the same) which I am able to colonize, do not build a Dome when they should. Thus no people and results in me "not having enough reasources" for construction of any kind of facilities.

Anyone have any idea what I am doing wrong?

Your colonies have no population. Note there is no automatic colonization amount of 1M from the crew as in stock. If you're using the colonize order right away (which will pick up colonists from the planet the ship is constructed at) and instead using the ship to explore first, be sure to transfer some population.

ahhh...ok. I think that is it. I believe I was using some of the colony ships to explore first before hitting the colonize button. I didn't realize that (assuming I am saying this correctly) you have to keep your colony ship at a planet with population, hit the colonize button then select the planet to colonize. That would explain why it seem so random.

Thanks! Smiling

You can also transfer population to the ship before you go exploring as well.

Do you just have to hit the colonzie button to do that or do you have to use the transfer cargo button and move a certain number of people?

While we are on the subject...
Can you just use freighters to transfer people/numbers of a population to new colonies? If so, do you have to add additional life support stuff etc? Seems like you would have to but havent read anything on this. I cant seem to transfer any people via ships thus far.

Thanks for the help!

Yes, you'd just use the transfer cargo order to load population.

Any item with cargo space can take population and drop them somewhere else. No additional life support is required.

Watch out when using the Colonize button. If you have added cargo spaces to carry extra population, they will not be filled by the Colonize button, just the capacity of the colony unit. In this case you ALWAYS have to use the cargo transfer function to fully load your ship with extra POP or mines or WPs or whatever.

I load a WP, a spy sat and fill the rest with pop, in that order.

That does not appear to be true; I just designed a colony ship with a cargo bay and used the colonize order. 48M people were loaded, filling up the 240 kt total cargo space (regular colony ship only carries 8M).

The colonize order will load as much population that can fit on the ship, not just what will fit in the colony module. Sticking out tongue
