Great Expectations?.....met! :)

I just played through the demo of Space Empires 5 and I really must say that I am impressed.

I'm also pleasantly surprised at the quality of the game as a whole ( demo only so far; of course ).

I experienced some bugs and crashes and other evidences that the game remains in an unfinished state; which may explain the missed ship date and lack of available download to some degree; but to be quite honest, I can't help but express my admiration for what I have seen so far.

I especially liked the new combat graphics. MOO 3 graphic portrayal of fleet combat is improved upon greatly by SE5. At least that's my humble opinion. SE 5 provides me the ability to give orders that I actually see obeyed. I have no doubt that when I finally do get the game it will require an ongoing patching effort from MM but I am also unconcerned by that fact. MM has proven to me over the years that they take their games very seriously.

I believe that SE5 will replace MOO and MOO 2 as the new standard of excellence in 4x space games.

I had great expectations for this game and so far it has proven worth the wait.

This is the first 4x game I have played where the tactical battles are actually fun.I messed around a lot in the simulater with the alltech cheat enabled, it rocks.I have noticed if you have over 100 battleships and 7 baseships in a battle the game craches.Unlikely your get that many in one battle anyway.

I can think of a few situations where I've managed that. Say... large galaxy where there was a "chokepoint" wormhole thsat both sides had heavily defended.

Big fleets

Hah. That's a relatively small battle for some people. Eye-wink Some of the ones in SE4 were so big they filled the entire combat map and none of the ships could move.

Those numbers are easily attainable and I think it's more to do with lingering bugs that actually number of ships at this time.
