No New Shipsets?

Well, I know SE5 hasn't been out that long, but I've already dipped my hand in shipset creation, in a sense, as I took the default shipset and images from a neutral race and edited them into a player useable race.

All it seems is required for an original is the unique images. I'm just surprised I guess that I haven't seen a lot more out there yet.

Just retorical statement here as I guess I am just missing my favorites from SE4, the SEOR (Star Empire of Romii) shipset, the Eysk mechanoid shipset (looked great in SE4), and ... well that's all I can think of at the moment... would like to see the SEOR especially though, but I'm not great at making original graphics...

I guess for now, I could just use the portrait files from them and resize them, and put them in with the default shipset as well, just so I can have them in a game (I have had SE5 almost a month and haven't even got past 10 turns or so yet, still tinkering and examining everything). Of course, I would never distribute anything with the SEOR or EYSK images, they aren't mine to do so...

You can't just replace the ship portraits... 99% of the views of ships in-game are the 3d rendered models.

Making models for use in a real time rendering engine is a whole different ballgame from static images ala SE4.

I find that 19 new shipsets after only a year that the game is out is pretty good. And some of them are pretty unique!

Does anyone know how well these shipsets work with the Balance Mod? I'd love to see the star wars and star trek ships, but if they wont work with the BM, I wont bother.

AFAIK all shipsets are compatible with all mods, even if sometimes you have to give them the strategy files if you want the AI to use them.

Copy and rename the AI files from a race in the mod..

Now that I found and figured out the script compiler for empire setup 'csf' files, I've had some fun. I backed up and increased what Terrans, Eee, etc. start with for racial traits, too. A bit better balanced for AI in my game Smiling

I didn't figure on the 3D models required for a shipset though... beyond me right now.
