So is it a freightor or is it an Attack ship? |
I ran this over the simulator several times last eve with differing strategies, so I'm pretty sure this is the deal. Freighter hulls that have a single PD weapon are being classified as short range attack ships for priorities purposes. I found this out because my fighters were ignoring combat vessals and were running past them to go after fleeing cargo ships. I thought that a freighter hull vs a frigate hull would be the thing the priorities would be keying too, either that or whatever the designer classified the ship as. Does anyone know exactly what the target priority list is using to determine what is a "short range attack ship" vrs any other kind of ship, especially a freightor?

Re: So is it a freightor or is it an Attack ship?
And I guess the manual doesn't even mention it...
Re: So is it a freightor or is it an Attack ship?
I think the AI chooses targets based on the weaponry the targets possess. Did you try the sim with completely unarmed freighters?

Re: So is it a freightor or is it an Attack ship?
I think those priority settings are too vague, really. I'd prefer a percentage or tonnage setting to determine how much weaponry is required for something to be classified an attack ship.
Also, does anyone have any idea when the game decides something is a defense ship instead of an attack ship?

Re: So is it a freightor or is it an Attack ship?
That's kind of odd since ships with only Point-Defense will retreat from a combat, yet they are still considered combat ships for targeting. Perhaps it should be adjusted so that it's consistent both ways...

Figuring out all the oddities would take a few weeks of studies. I think MM should focus on repairing/reworking the strategies system to be more consistent with a real time combat system. He's already done this to some degree with the retreat system, but other things are just too vague to be reliable.

Re: So is it a freightor or is it an Attack ship?
Thanks for sharing the research. I used to think ships were just classed by what the player assigned, but that would be waaaay too easy to exploit.
Good luck & I hope more answers are forthcoming.
