NON-Random Start Positions

Submitted by Non-Terrestrial on Sat, 2007-08-18 13:58. Space Empires V General

I have a nice map generated (out of luck) and 5 start positions assigned. Is there any, ANY way to control who starts where in which of those start positions? Any at all? I mean, all they would have to do is NUMBER the start positions, so you could assign P1, P2, etc. But they are all just random points. Is there ANY way around this?

Since you can mark systems as start points, and you can save the map, and game setup. Have you tried saving, starting, and reloading and restarting if you don't like it?

Remember that different races need different atmospheres, and all need the same size/quality planet. There is no guarantee that the system YOU want to start in has a planet of the correct size, atmosphere, quality.

I have noticed that there seems to be areas in the map that tend toward certain atmospheres. Hydrogen planets abound over in this area, while Oxygen are over in that area.

Im pretty certain that rather than trying to find a planet of the right type, after generating sector it will add the homeworlds for the players. By selecting every system as a possible placement point before you start the game and it turns out that asteroid systems, i.e. one sun and nothing asteroids, can be made a starting place for a player, with one single planet among all the fields.

Ya, I have a great map I saved, one that I just got lucky generating that has lots of huge Gas/Co2 for Eee, and same good huge Rock/Oxy, Ice/Oxy, just a great overall map that I had SET start positions for. It does create a home planet for each start position whether one already exists in that system or not, it's part of SETTING a start point, it generates the home planet.

The problem is getting Eee to start in the one where Gas/Co2 is and so on... have to keep loading all the empires I created (because I want to play against certain ones amd make sure I get them), marking them all AI accept mine and starting the game over and over trying to get everyone in the right place... pain in the %$#.

well it would be nice as i got the cool map creator, be nice to set up perfect start positions for everyone or have a 2 v 1 style with larger bonus system for the guy on his own, things like that

Well, at least on this good map I lucked out getting, I removed ALL the set start points, moved races from the empire directory I didn't want in my game temporarily, started a game a few times with no set start locations... and got a good game I am actually going to play now with the races I want and where I generally want them.

Dam random start points, take them all away and I started a better game...
