Weapons Platforms

If you stick a couple of weapon platforms on a planet that has a resupply deopt, then do you really need to bother with supply/ordnance storage on the actual WP?

If you click on the planet during combat the supply/ordance reserves say "endless"

Not usually, depending on the planet's size and location. The main concern is that ships and fleets can drain all of the planet's supplies if they tap it. Other than that, you're clear to convert the space to armour or other useful components.

If i am in an enemy system and want colonize a planet that is really nice that they cant put a colony on i will send a supply ship with the colony ship that is carrying a few weapons platforms so that after i colonize the planet i move the weapons platforms over from the supply ship to give the new colony time to build a space yard or supply depot also works with satellites esp if u send a fleet of supply ship with sat that can regen supplies with the solar collector lay a massive sat fleet on a warp and watch those enemy ships burn by the dozen, the AI will try and destroy those sats to the exclusion of all else take away the pressure on your systems if they are invading u,

I thought that WP didn't use supply and ordnance?

Yep thats what I thought too. Dont bother to connect any supply or ord to weapon platforms. Eveb if you intend to move then as cargo. But I do like Dansherill's idea of bringing platforms and sats from a more establshed system. I presently wait a few turns before starting resupply depots in order to set up basic defenses. I also tend to keep a few friggates over the new planet unil its on its feet. Bringing defenses with your colony ship would allow you to leave immediately and move on and allow you to start a reupply depot immediately. Good one.

I usually include a WP in the cargo of my colony ships if the target planet is within striking distance of the enemy.

I add cargo to my colony ships, but I usually put population in there, but others have said migration makes starting pop not too important. Maybe a cargo of 2 WPs and a surveilance sat would be better served.

I like the idea of bringing prefab WP's along with the Colony ship.
Thanks for the responses.

I must be a little hard of reading. Do weapon platforms use supply and ordnance?

they draw suplys etc from the planet so will only need suply components if you have cleaned the planet out resuplying your fleet this turn.

This can change in some mods but having spent to much time recently doing first line IT suport I can not remember which one.

OT is there some evil genius cloning people of especialy low IQ & abiilty to follow instructions just so they can ring up IT suport??

Not really positive on what happens in combat but on those dome planets where u can build only one facility better to have a wp with an ordance and supply pod just in case. I have a game going currently where i colonized some planets with just one facility cause they were ruins planets and far off my empire and in enemy systems, the planet list and quadrant view show no ordance at all and the only supplies are what i think were left over from the colony ship.

I did a WP test and the platforms fired indefinitely when a resupply facility was present, without one they fired for a short time and then stopped (assumedly because the onboard supplies were depleted).

Hmm, but what happens in the next combat? Do they fire again?

I always put a supply and ordinance generator on each WP. When not in use, it helps the planet maintain its levels. With 20-30 WPs on a planet (warp point cental) that is under constant invasion, supplies can be depleted.

Do they even work when in cargo? What about sensors?
