Firing Arc |

I think that they should add firing arcs to the ships in the next patch. I mean, if your going to have to go through the trouble to choose which slot the weapon goes on, you might as well add a firing arc and armor protection areas (like if the armor is in the frong, IT IS ONLY IN THE FRONT). Like, lets say you stick one on the top front, that means it will be able to be like a turret in the front, it could shoot front, left and right.
Then, you put one on the middle deck, on the front right, that would give it a firing arc from the front, and strait out, and so it would have a 90 degree firing arc.
On the carriers, lets say that you put all of the launce pads in the front, that would mean that fighters can only launch in the front. There would be more strategy in your ships if you do it like this.
Like, lets say you decide to have the arrowhead stratigy for your fleet. You make the flag ship with full frontal weapons, so it only shoots forward. The ships going in the right wing will have more weapons and armor on the right, and the ships going on the left wing will have more weapons and armor to the left. and if you fighting a ship that has extreme weapons and armor on the front, the best way to destroy it is to get behind it, that way it adds more piloting skills to it.

Re: Firing Arc
Firing arcs have been discussed at least a few times in the past. There are many pros and cons... but the simple fact of the matter is that it would take some pretty major changes at this point to add them. The AI and ship strategies would need to be modified to use them properly, etc...
The Gritty Galaxy mod uses directional armor. Try the mod out and see how you like it. Unfortunately I don't think there is an AI for Gritty Galaxy; you'll have to find some human opponents in order to play, or play against yourself using "hot seat" mode.
