Ionic and Neutrino warheads

Submitted by jjse on Wed, 2007-08-15 14:37. Space Empires V General

The Ionic and Neutrino warheads say :

Engine Only
Shield Generator Only

But in combat simulation I'm seeing that they damage Shield and Armor points first. I guess I can -sort of- understand that shield must be defeated first. But armor?? I mean, if the rest of your ship's weapons are powerful enough to defeat all of your target's shield and armor, you are ALREADY starting to hit the guts of your target. Why would you need, or want to, spend the equivalent cost of a same level, comparably equipped FRIGATE, on a kamikaze warhead drone that will get destroyed upon impact?

Oh, and one other thing...

The standard warheads make even less sense. It often does the equivalent damage of other weapons, except that other weapons can be fired repeatedly, and you don't end up wasting the resource on the construction and destruction of a drone when you slam it into your target. I -must- be missing something.

You wouldn't. In SE:IV, "only" damage types always bypassed armor, but for some reason it didn't get set up that way for SE:V.

I think it's an oversight. If you play Balance Mod then those weapons will skip armor as they're supposed to. If you prefer Stock then you can modify the DamageTypes.txt file in order to force those weapons to skip armor.

My testing in Junkyard shows only partial penetration. Or maybe the leftover damage is going to armor.....

Neutrino weapons...LOL...those particles can pass through an entire planet and are completely innocuous...I don't know how you could possibly make a weapon out of them.

You, sir, apparently have a very poor understanding of basic particle physics. It is quite easy to harness the destructive power of a neutrino pulse. Proper understanding of Holzman theory inevitably leads to conclusions applicable to both neutrino and tachyon manipulation; a flux capacitor, powered by a sufficient source of brownian motion, need only reverse the polarity of the electron flow in the solenoid in order to induce a cascading nutrino detonation.

Furthermore, by performing the same process in reverse (after spending the requisite 10k research points) one can improve the efficiency of quantum fusion reactors by 10%.

Smiling Do not anger the gods of sci-fi! Remember...everything is possible with enough blinky-lights.

Like I said...blinky lights.

Now I just have to find a scientific justification for
a brown windsor soup cannon...

hmm, i´m no scientist lord shleepy, but if you realy want to see that brown windsor soup cannon i´d try to get some blinky lights first first.
i heard someone saying they´ll help with any strange scifi invention Smiling
