A few random questions

Submitted by jjse on Sun, 2007-08-12 13:45. Space Empires V General

1. Do multiple Energy Refractors stack?

2. Why would anyone use Security Station? Boarding Parties give the exact same bonus and you can use them for attack and defense. Or am I missing something?

3. Long Range Scanner seems to be acting weird. I have an opponent who is down to 1 planet. I scanned it with a ship equipped with a Long Range Scanner and it shows no facilities. But on the "Comparison" screen that empire is showing 1200 Research points. This is happening to others too. I'm seeing 2 Intelligence centers on one planet of another empire, but the Comparison screen shows 0 points. Which one is in error?

4. Why would anyone spend precious research points on higher levels of colonization tech? AFAIK, the only thing it gives you is a little bit more cargo (and structure). Why is that worth it?

5. How can I position a Sphere world so it is CENTERED on a sun instead of being lopesided and off by 1 square?

Thanks guys!

1: Does it say "only one component per ship effective"?

2: Security station is a smaller component. but equally effective at fending off capture.

3: Comparison is the state of empires during the previous turn, not actually their current state.

4: In theory, the higher the starting population, the sooner you'll get production bonuses for population units. But in practice, Migration negates the usefulness of the larger population storage.

5: Edit the systemtypes file so that the sun is slightly off center. Or change the Stellar Objects file so that you can fly a ship into the center of a star.

1. No it doesn't. So I guess they stack?

2. The max level Boarding Party and Security Station are both 20kt components in the standard mod.

3. Thats good to know. However, I have observed the numbers turn by turn and they do not change even though my Long Range Scanner told me differently.

4. I agree. Seems way too expensive for an insignificant benefit.

5. Thanks, great idea!

2 and 4 : Stock has many items that are not balanced. These are only two examples.

I am finally at a point in time where I am ready to make a sphere world. However, when I looked into the Stellar Objects file I was unable to see anything that dictates whether a stellar object can be "flown through". Can someone please explain how that is done?

Thanks.
