How many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie pop? 'rant thread, enter at your own risk!'

Well?

I can't help it. I'm starting to feel like SE5 is turning out to be a consumer funded BETA project for SE6.

Like a fool I bought it right after it went gold.

We're at patch number 1.44 soon to be 1.48 for God's sake and still the game isn't fixed.

How about this...How about MM just stop releasing broken patches?

How about MM just releasing THE patch!

You know what I'm talking about...One Patch to rule them all, one Patch to find them, one Patch to fix it all, and with the Gameplay bind them!!

There's no mortal version of infinite patience, no matter how much we like your game.

rant over.

bravo, bravo.....

And I hate starcraft style gameplay where ship classes dont mean anything because AI keeps to buil only latest ship class so after x*n turns all empires have only dreadnoughts fleets without destroyers, cruisers....

Sry to say but game sucks in many ways!

If MM was to only release a single patch that would fix practically ALL of the game problems, then it would NEVER be released. It took 6 years to patch up SE4 (patch 1.95), with the help of the gaming community, and there are still several minor bugs.

I prefer the current system, every patch significantly improves the game and they are released pretty fast. Furthermore, we are able to guide MM on what are the biggest problems.

Evolution

Submitted by Rilo57 on Sat, 2007-08-11 12:27.

I've said this before, I would rather be able to play this game in a slightly incomplete state, rather than wait for another 2 years to have it released...

This is a different type of game from those big game houses. Intrinsically this game is better, it evolves over time. There needs to be a lot of input from the community for it to be able to evolve. ChiggyVonRichtoven your asking for a complete game right of the shelf (or after a patch), but that's not how this works. This is a Moddable game, it will continue to evolve and be patched and a year or two from now (or more), a lot of people will still be playing it...

SEV, more than a feeling.

Just to remind everyone, MM is a one-man show. Aaron Hall is MM. He only has help with the images and models. The core of the game is all him.

We paid AAA price for the game.I care little for the excuses about him being alone.Maybe he should spend money and employ or charge shareware prices.

What is 'AAA price'? In Australia it came out at $50, where as Command and Conquer released at $100. Addmitantly C&C is now down to around $50, and I haven't seen SEV around lately. I was actually surprised to see SEV in stores, I thought that I would have to buy online. SEIV and Starfury have also come out with SEV, and for some reason they're both around $40.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks like to me that the blame is more on Strategy First, the publisher, rather than Malfador Machinations, the developper.
Didn't SF force him to release the game while it was still in a beta state? I also suspect that it's they who chose this "excellent" company that is Empire Interactive for the european release.
Maybe he should have stayed with Shrapnel Games instead?

I would say you are right and mm schould have taken another publisher at least for the european version, because the support of Empire Interactive is more than bad. The site itself ist confusing, the german site doesn't work at all and they need more than a month to offer a patch they got almost finished. 1 month just for testing a patch, that's pretty to long.
Sorry for the grammer and my bad writing, but my English isn't the best.

Not to my knowledge... Its not as if MM has a good track record for releasing nearly bug-free products. SE4 was rather buggy at release, as was Starfury. I'm not positive about SE3, but it was a fairly simple engine with exponentially fewer areas to go wrong. You try to fix everything you can, but at some point you have to release it to start getting an income stream again.

Blame your UK retailers/distributors then. The game was sold at retail (everywhere I saw it, at least) and online by Strategy First for $40, $10-20 less than "AAA" games in the US (depending on whether you compare to the $50 PC games or the $60 Xbox/PS3 games).

Just an FYI. Bought my copy with SEIV deluxe included at Babbages 2 weeks ago for US $14.95 on the bargain shelf.

Malfador probably didn't have any input on that decision. That was Strategy First's call.

From other stuff I've read, it's not clear to me that SEV would even exist if Malfador had stayed with Shrapnel.

"Good morning, Pooh Bear," said Eeyore gloomily. "If it /is/ a good morning," he said. "Which I doubt," said he.

So I'm sorry for pointing my finger on mm but I still think that Empire Interactive was no good choice.

The one-big-patch approach is out of the question. It'd take much too much time, and it'd still be imperfect. Just look at how many fixes have gone awry or needed further tweaking.

I'm frustrated at times, but the only solution I could get behind would be more manpower.

Those who'd rather wait have the option to do so. Just play something else for months and then tune in for the latest patches & mods, right?
