Submitted by Tophat on Wed, 2007-08-08 11:56. SE:V MODs

Is anyone currently working on a B5 Mod?

Is anyone making a B5 group of shipsets?

You could always start working on a B5 Mod. It might encourage shipset authors to make B5 sets. Smiling

There was an excellent B5 mod for SE4, and a B5 mod for SE5 would be great but I haven't heard of anybody working on one. I guess creating one for SE5 would be a lot harder because of needing to make 3D renders for all the ships (a massive job) whereas SE4 just needed 2D graphics.

There are lots of B5 models available on the net. An enterprising soul could simply ask the authors for permission to use them and convert them to .x format.

I would attempt it however i am not in anyway familiar with the process of adding ship models to this game.

Is it possible to take the 2D images in the already created B5 shipsets and convert them to 3D? If so does anyone know the process?

Adding models is not that difficult at all. Making them is the tricky part. Eye-wink There are various useful threads here.

There are programs out there that can make 3d versions of 2d images, but they never look very good.

I have done a bit of 3D graphics rendering in the past, but not to any great standard. I might give creating 1 or 2 Earth Alliance ships a go to start with and see how those progress. However, the sheer number of ships to model (for 8 or so races) would make it an huge job for one person.

I've started work on an Earth Alliance shipset and said I'd post some screenshots (in another topic re. B5), so here are the two completed ships I have so far - a hyperion class cruiser (Light Cruiser in SEV) and an Omega Class Destroyer (Criuser in SEV).

Both of these models are completely my own work from scratch and I have tried to keep the polygon count low and texture in some of the details. I'll admit my texturing skills aren't the best in the world but I'm improving all the time.

I have 2 other models complete but awaiting texturing and a third model underway, so this is a work in progress at the moment and is nowhere near a finished shipset.

Those look nice. Can't wait to see the models of space sations (B4, B5, and I think we saw one other, B3? Not sure we got a good enoug view to model, hell, it took most of the series before I figured out what B5 looked like).

The destroyer texture seems pretty bright; aren't they a fairly dark-gray in the show?

I don't mind them being bright, in the show they were "dark" due to the lack of lightsources. I'd much rather be able to see my ships than have to hunt around for them, black-on-black.

I'm not sure how a darkish shade of grey equates to black... Light sources don't turn steel into something as white as paper. The "cruiser" ship is light grey, but the omega destroyers are not.

Thanks for the comments, although I'm far from having a complete shipset ready to use. I have the Nova and Olympus class models complete and ready to texture and have started work on the Warlock class destroyer.

The Omega's do look quite dark in B5, but like Draco18s said I was trying not to make them too dark in the game. I did make the panelling I used for texturing 25% darker on the Omega compared to the Hyperion but you're right that there doesn't appear to be a great difference in-game.

I'd also rather have them lighter to be able to see the ships

I think they look very good indeed. Can't wait to get my hands on them to use ingame. Also I am in full agreement that lighter models you can actually see are far better than dark, blends into background, ships.

Can we see more screen shots?

It's not as if the omega texture color is black or anything... they are usually pretty easy to see.

I have picked up the challenge to create a Babylon 5 Wars mod. So far so good. My intent is to do all 35 playable races from the AOG game. I have two done so far. I do not currently have the know how to create ship models though...just the "rules" for the mod. So any B5W ships out in open resource land can be added to the mod once finished.

If only that were the case... I had to stretch quite a bit to find usable shipsets for half the paradigms in Adamant Mod. :-\
