Description
After a period of inactivity and a hard drive wipe I reinstalled Space Empires V. Since the last time I played it I had upgraded to an AMD dual core Opteron. Everything, from games to apps, works fine on my system. However. SEV has some serious issues.
When I first install the game without patching the game will not launch at all. I get Access Violation errors. So, I patch the game to 1.44 and when I launch the game I get the game music but my screen is white. If I alt tab out and then go back to the game I get normal video. However, the bottom 1/4 of my screen kicks me to the desktop when I click down there. This basically makes the game unplayable. I have uninstalled and reinstalled.
I have tried the 'Set Affinity' method for only using one core. Nothing works. I have tried only patching to a few versions below the latest version. Doesn't work. Space Empires IV Deluxe works fine, which I find funny. Anyway, I would like to actually play my game, so any help is appreciated.
Updates
Try playing the game in windowed mode, this will at least solve the problem with you clicking at the bottom of the screen and it going to windows.
Sounds like either:
A) Game is trying to use an unsupported resolution. Change game's resolution, see if things improve.
B) Video driver needs to be (re)installed. Possibly try a different revision of video driver.

I had hoped that the recent set of patches would have cleared this issue, but alas that is not the case. Even with a fresh install and 1.63 applied I have the exact same problem.
I have attempted windowed mode, different resolutions, and different video drivers. Nothing changes this bizarre bug. The only thing I can think of that could be causing this is my dual core AMD Opteron. This was the only thing that changed from when the game did work to the present. I have no idea what to do next, which is a shame because I did enjoy the game back when it worked for me.
