Scrambled Graphics in Dialogs

Submitted by CptGreenwood on Fri, 2006-09-22 09:39. Bug Reports

Hi,

I've waited so long for the demo and now I'm a kind of disapointed.
The graphics in most of the dialogs are scrambled. Things are moved out of place, strange colored areas around, absolutely unplayable. 3D map display is OK, only the dialog boxes (i.e. ship designing).
I'll try to get a screenshot... but hmm I don't know if I can attach it to my posts here.

I play on a Vaio VGN-S5XP notebook with Intel Pentium M760 2GHz, 1GB RAM, NVidia GeForce Go 6400, WinXP SP2.

Help would be nice. I really can't play that...

Greetz,
CptGreenwood

Try SAFE in Setup

Try "SAFE" for video memory. This usual solves all problems with corrupt graphics.

Graphics problem

Submitted by Weber Fan on Fri, 2006-09-22 11:19.

CptGreenwood,

I recommend messing around with the graphics options. I was having EXACTLY the same problem as you (scrambled unreadable dialogue boxes), then I chose one of the video modes with 16 million colors instead of 32 million. That fixed everything. The graphics look beautiful!

It worked. Setting graphics

Submitted by CptGreenwood on Sat, 2006-09-23 11:13.

It worked. Setting graphics memory to safe did the job. Now even 32bit colors work.
Does it bring negative aspects setting memory to safe? Performace loss?

So far, setting video memory

Submitted by MageKing17 on Sat, 2006-09-23 11:46.

So far, setting video memory to safe only solves problems for people. I've never had anyone have to switch from safe to auto. Although some don't have to switch at all, like me.

16 and 32 bit

Submitted by zanthra on Sat, 2006-09-23 13:36.

I just wanted to make sure you know that the color depth is not 16 million and 32 million colors, but instead each pixel has 16 or 32 bits of data to define the color. That makes it 2^16 colors = 65,536 colors, or 2^32 colors = 4,294,967,296. There is a pretty significant difference between the number of colors there.

Thank You - SAFE WORKS

Submitted by StarHunter5 on Sun, 2006-09-24 22:16.

I had the same problem,
Could not figure out what the problem was.
Then I saw Scrambled Graphics in Dialogs,
and put the game's video into SAFE,
now I can play with no problems.
Thank You.

AntiAliasing

Submitted by morphh on Fri, 2006-10-06 10:08.

I had this same problem but the safe mode did not fix it for me - I would only get half a screen in safe mode. I had to turn off (set to Application controlled) AntiAliasing - this gave me an extra 20fps which fixed the problem. Changing the color depth and resolution did nothing for me. I'm now running at 1900x1200 32bit with no issues. - Morphh
