Crash of se5.exe when using Vista or XP

Submitted by Kyloth on Tue, 2007-07-24 01:26. Technical Support

Hi:
Since I installed patch 1.44, I have had nothing but crashes in both XP and Vista. Error reads:

Exception
Violation address 0072039E in module 'se5.exe' Read of address 000000C4.

Regettably this make the game unplayable until fixed, as I cannot recover from it.
Thanks
John

Hard lockup

Submitted by seaotter on Sun, 2007-10-07 14:15.

I recently restored my XP system. I belief that I have the correct drivers for the machine but in SE5 with patch 1.44 I'm getting an issue there the computer will just lock up. The num Lock key will not toggle the light nor the contr/alt/delete work. The mouse is frozen too. I set the graphic low that did not effect it. I did go into the task menu and give SE5 high proarity which got it to run for 3 to 6 turns before locking up instead of the normal 0.5 to 3 its been doing. The computer has not been locking up in any other program so far. Looking for a little advice. Or has anyone else had this happen to them.

I am also experiencing horrible issues, with XP and the latest patch. After about 50 or so turns, (with even small settings chosen, low numbers of ships, units, ect) the game becomes unstable. Either it will no longer process a turn, or it will no longer allow you to select anything, gives incorrect feedback when you spacebar between ships, or it hangs on a player when processing the turn, or it hangs at the end of turn processing.

Can they PLEASE fix this memory piggie? It's pegging my cpu and memory requirements! The HALLmark of SE games has always been how WELL they run and how smoothly and quickly. Now the opposite is true, unfortunately.

All that is done before the naked stars is remembered

It's still here in 1.71, it doesn't CRASH, until I try to run the simulator, but I get the engine error message, and all MY ships in the simulator have purple-pinkish bars below them and the occasional random picture, this is really messing with me (single player) because I just commissioned Second Fleet to deal with the Xati forces in the Curyok system and once my fleet flagship, Errant Venture finishes production I will commission it with Third fleet to deal with the Phong chain...but enough of my game...this problem really sucks.

I'm running the 1.71 patched boxed version under XP and get a crash that says "TDirect3DFile.Start - Cant find xfile" is this the same problem? It seems to occur at the end of about 50 turns. I'm guessing but 30 years of programming telss me it maybe a memory allocation problem. Any chance we could pressure tech support to get on this? It really limits the game to demo condition.
