SE V v1.44 Crash after combat

Description

SE V crashes after Strategic combat.

1) Load save game
2) Go to Qornor System
3) Select Fleet Bravo
4) Attack planet Qornor XII
5) Select Strategic combat, 32X and go (Blew up with 1x as well. Not tested all speeds)
6) After combat click close.
7) BOOM!

On step 3 You should select fleet beta.

probably more constructive to Mail the attached save game to MM directly.

Tell me did you join fleets together to make one before you attacked - I get combat errors all time and crashs like this

The fleet code is bit screwed I think - you delete fleets and crash - you don't delete fleets and joined fleet gets killed and you crash - you try and move 0 resources from a ship to fleet and crash - lol and I just crashed again 5 minutes ago - TRUST ME SAVE YOUR GAMES - crashs alsways at "Read of Address 000000C4"

The manipulation of fleets probably explains the crashes I've started having around turn 29 in a new 1.44 BM1.08 game, too. The crashes always seem to happen during ship/fleet movement in the system screen after prior fleet creation/changes. I've tried different orders of operations and moving different ships but it doesn't help.

This is a major bug introduced in 1.44, IMO. I hope it's high on MM's priority list but I am hesitant to add to the email deluge if it's already been pointed out directly to MM.

Another anomaly I've noticed is that sometimes 'ghost' fighter groups appear at a plenet for 1 turn, just after my invasion, but you can't select them. The planet had no fighters present prior to invastion.

If this is related to the above then I'd say the ships, fleets and groups object lists are getting corrupted and evetually bad pointers cause a crash.

Hi Everybody!

There is a known bug in version 1.44: If you have over 20 fleets in your empire, crashes can sometimes result. All you need to do is to get rid of some fleets until you have less than 20.

Hope this helps. If it doesn't, email your savegame and a description of the problem to .

Getting below 20 fleets helped for a bit. The ships list dialog said I had 22 fleets, so first thing I did was to delete several to get down around 13 or 14. It's difficult to say exactly because the total shown in the top of the ships dialog didn't update the next time I checked after deleting (emptying) fleets. And there is no separate fleets list dialog in SE5, unlike SE4 IIRC, so I had to sort and filter ships and unit groups lists and count up the number of unique fleets. BTW, when trying to filter for unit groups, the game froze for a few minutes, but the dialog finally showed.

Anyhow, played a couple turns OK, including fleet transfers but no new fleets, and then created a temp. fleet of 2 ships and tried to attack a ship and got immediate crash. Luckily I had saved just before attacking with the new fleet. So now that I have a save game with an easily repeatable crash I am emailing MM with it, because after restarting the game the fleets list confirmed I had only 15 fleets. Trying again to attack with the same new fleet caused the crash again, but emptying the fleet, selecting both ships and attacking worked OK. BTW, both ships actually simultaneously attacked which frustratingly seems to not always be the case with multiple ships selections.

Hope this wasn't too pedantic a post.

may be fixed by Beta build 1.45 which deals with the 20+ fleets issue and may do the others
