Ring World Placement Generator Bugged?

Submitted by General_WMD on Fri, 2007-07-20 08:55. Space Empires V General

I'm new to the game (2 days since I bought it and played the demo for a while before) yestarday I started a game with only one other empire to eperiment with Stellar Manipulation which dosen't work in the demo. Today I continued the game and managed to reach Tech Level 70 in Stellar Manipulation and got Tach Level 10 baseships. So I build all the components needed to create the ring world. But when I tried it next to the star with everything else in the system the game crashed and an error message popped up saying something about read access. I dont know if it was a bug or just a one of thing. The other baseships were set into a fleet I don't know if that woul do anything. I've got v1.44 on steam.
Anyone have any Ideas on why this happened?

And I didn't save before so I'm likely to be back and Tech Level 40 or 50 in stellar manipulation so Iwould be able to post the save up.

No I didn't think I would need it seeing as it didn't crash before though that would have been helpful...

You should ALWAYS have autosave enabled for EVERY turn! Even more so when a new patch comes out: you don't know what hidden instabilities it could have brought...

To get back on topic....
I too have this problem. Any attempt to construct a Ring world or sphere world results in an error message:
"Access violation at address 0072039E in module 'se5.exe'. Read of address 000000C4"

I'm using a fresh install of SEV with patch 1.44
OS:WinXP (With DirectX 9.0c)
CPU:Athlon 64
RAM:1gb
Video:Radeon 9550 256mb DDR (latest drivers)
Sound: Creative Labs Audigy (Latest drivers available)

I even tried switching to the latest Omega Drivers just to see if it would make a difference, it didn't.

No need to apologise for that General_WMD, not your fault the programme crashes more often than a formula one driver racing on slicks in the rain.

But it is good advice to save this game. Charming though it is and one of a kind, its just isnt finished yet. However in case you or others dont understand the SE development process it will be finished one day, unlike so many games out there it is constantly under development. Its due to the garage type roots of the whole enterprise.

Anyway the deal is to send bug reports, if possible accompanied by illustrative gamesaves to Aaron at MalfadorMachinations and he will take it in hand.
