So I've been playing the game some, and I wandered over to the "projects & downloads" section to look at all the mod tools and such. I was tempted to try my hand at creating a universe to play in, with all the galaxies/planets/etc. So I was curious if anyone knew what was the easiest and/or best method to make a map; or what's the best utility to use to design my own map with all the necessary variables.
And are there many, or any, tutorials out there on how to design content/mods for SEV? Something to kind of help me get started with how to use the various tools, and get me thinking of all the aspects I'll want to remember when starting to make my own stuff.
Thanks in advance for any advice offered.

Re: Editors
This is the editor I use http://www.devnullsoftware.com/se5/ the version is a little higher at devnull's website. the editor complains about the version of SEV, but seems to work fine.
The cool thing about SEV is that you can do tiny changes or huge rewrites of the program.
I agree with Fyron, though and you should also try to get into the Data files in the Data folder. and change those dirrectly. The editor can get you started.
SEV, more than a feeling.

Re: Editors
Other than a map editor, tools are overrated. "Programmers" text editors are the best bet.
The SE Wiki (linked in sig) contains some modding help info, but not a whole lot yet. Much more for SE4, which bears some similarity (especially in map-related data files), but had no concept of formulas for any of the files. In the SE5\Docs folder, there are 2 PDF files with references of all the functions and such, but they aren't really of the "tutorial" type.
