Migration

Submitted by marhawkman on Mon, 2007-07-16 19:08. SE:V MODs

1: How do you modify Migration?

2: How do you modify it to move people off a planet due to not liking the atmosphere?

3: If not possible is it possible to change the "bubble" status to check to see if the Dominant race likes the atmosphere rather than the current version which chacks them all?

Migration I think is hard coded. You can just junk your population, so that there are only native breathers on the planet.

SEV, more than a feeling.

From the settings.txt;

Race Starting Percent Reproduction := 10
Race Starting Percent Migration := 5
Race Migration Added 1 Percent Per Population Amount := 1000

I think they allow you to change the rate, but not to have a negative migration.

SEV, more than a feeling.

I think you could use it to up the rate to 100%, bu that'd just spread your population out once per turn.

Wait.... Is migration the rate people leave a planet?

tested setting Migration rate to 100%, nothing. It doesn't seem to have changed anything at all....

Did you start a new game?
It seems that these values are read only at the beginning of a new game.

Okay.... that didn't seem to do anything at all. I set it to 100, and started a new game. No change.

I am not sure what is really the effect of the "Race Starting Percent Migration". However the "Race Migration Added 1 Percent Per Population Amount" seems to work and if you lower the amount (standard game = 1000) to lets say 100 you get a great increase of the migration from heavily populated colonies to less populated colonies.

Well.... the thing is I'm trying to get colonists to leave planets entirely.

Scenario:
I have a planet(hydrogen atmosphere) with 12 of my race(breathes carbon dioxide) and a race I've captured(breathes hydrogen).

what I'm trying to do is figure out a way to tweak the game so that it'll completely migrate my race off the planet and leave the other race.(thus removing bubble status)

OK, I understand now what you try to do.

Try a less radical number like:

Race Starting Percent Migration := 25

As soon as migration is higher than reproduction it should have the effect you want.
But even if this works you will pay a price: probably all you domed colonies will stay at 1M population, if they don't have mixed races.

The solution Kwok made for the AI in Balance Mod with scrapping the non-breathing population is highly effective for a human player too!

I'm sure it is. It's just that approach has an "evil overloard" vibe....

I'll try 25% to see what it does. Last time it actually had no effect at all.

Hmm... interesting news. I've managed to get it to 50%. Apparently I forgot to close the program completely last time. Now I just need to test to see what effect that has on the game.

The other way around this is to make the population get VERY unhappy about populations being scrapped. As one can imagine...

SEV, more than a feeling.
