Well one sun orbit after starting into space our first space hives are established and are thriving, it is possible to live in other parts of our system. The planets are not as rich as home hive but they will do. Our next step is to explore beyond the strange glowing funnels at the edge of the system. They look like the connecting tunnels we build between hives so maybe they do the same thing for the stars. Our engineers wonder how they were built, and who built them. We shall find out more once our first ships explore them.

Engineer Gut-Cre-Z on board the explorer ship “The one” we are approaching the strange swirling tunnel or at least we hope it is and not just a trap. Our sensors show a energy spike every few clicks, after some testing with probes and scans the energy seems to be harmless to us, just as well we have tough exoskeletons.
Well I suppose I must let the captain know that it is save to travel into the swirling mass, I do hope it is.

The captain has given the order all mandibles to there stations we are going in.

What a strange sensation like being ripped apart and then put back together, odd but kind of exhilarating. We are now in a strange star system many hives from home-hive and all alone. Now we must seek out a new hive planet.

So the strange swirling tunnels are connecting tunnels, they lead into other star systems. They are very strange as it takes no time at all to pass from one point to another many hive distances away. Unfortunately the systems we have found so far have no hive suitable planets in them. More exploration is called for. My experts are saying that it looks like the tunnels are natural and not built at all. That seems to imply that our form of life is the dominant type in space as we love tunnels. We also wonder if we are the only life form to have made it into space and also the only one to have managed to work out how to use the tunnels. We do not think we are the only race around as we have found various low forms of life on the planets we now inhabit some a little like us but very primitive. We will continue to expand and who knows what we will find.

My general Lord Ashur says we need to protect our hives and he is right we will defend the tunnels just as we do planet-side a large number of warriors at each will delay any attacker until we can send more to deal with any infestation. Some of the defence will have to be large ships with many warriors working together as only we can; we must be ready to build some soon.

Queen of Queens’s urgent news.

O Queen of Queen’s, we have expanded our search for new hive homes into 3 systems. However all are barren, one even has a funny black tunnel at its centre which is drawing 2 of our hive ships with 20m of our workers into it. One of them is already badly damaged and is likely to fall apart soon.

My adviser, that is terrible news. What are we going to do about our continued expansion?

Queen of Queen’s we are not sure we will continue to explore but if we do not find hive homes soon then we must just manage with home as we will not be able to travel much farther.

Adviser we need longer ranged ships, get our savants working on it with all smelly haste.

Position somewhere in a strange system, many hive’s from home.

Some months ago we entered this system and found no sun just a black core with a black tunnel; this tunnel was pulling everything towards it.
Our on board savants think that this is a collapsed sun and that it is destroying everything in the system. Unfortunately that includes our sister ship who was damaged getting in to the system and could not keep away from the center.
We are still looking for a safe way out of this system otherwise we will have to go back the same way and risk the damage.
Supplies are running low as is the fuel to keep the reactors running; once it is gone we will also be gone. This message will be sent by drone I hope it as well as the others make it out. It is so hard to keep a course in here with no stars to be seen and no places to orientate on.
May the spirit of this place keep us save.

Well we have made it out of the strange system with the black tunnel. We have found a new system this one seems to be full of storms and our savants doubt that it will have any live in it.
O happy smell we have found a small moon to stop at. We can settle here and then use it as a base to explore the rest of the area. I have no idea if we can contact Home Hive or whither we will have to find another way home. We are “lost in space” and do not know if we will ever see our hive mates again.
I must keep the moral of the hivlings up so that they do not give up. We will build a new home hive even if it takes many star turns to accomplish.
I am sending this report by drone as I have the others I do not know if it will reach home but if it does give our hive mates our best smells.

Queen of Queens I believe we have found another way to Captain Qu-ark-ty and the lost.
We have entered a system which appears to be in the same general area as he is. We are looking for a travel tunnel as you read this. If it exists we will find it and bring them back into the greater Hive. This might take a few partial orbits but it will be done.

My Queen, Captain Urak-Rak has found a way to the lost and will be going to rescue them soon.

My Lord that is good news indeed, at least our workers will know we never leave any stone unturned to save them.
Any other news my Lord? How’s the exploration going?

My Queen we have found more star systems, however non are as good as the first one we found or home. Our Hives are expanding further from home Hive and that is making it more difficult to keep good contact. Our ships are also pushing the limits of their supplies. We will have to slow down our expansion and build some new supply points before we continue. It is also becoming harder to keep warriors at each tunnel point, however as we have yet to come across any advanced life form our warriors in their strike craft have had no problem gaining control of each world we have landed on.

Savant Isx-Jwa, I am having a few problems with the power build up and storage matrix. However the odd times it works the Mass driver is more powerful than previous marks.

So Arak-Sachow long do you think it will be before we can start fitting it to our warriors strike craft?

Savant Isx-Jwa that is a good question, unfortunately I do not have a good answer for you. Until we can control the power build up and stop the back blasts we get every so often the system is not safe. The good news is that it will be more energy efficient than any other weapon we have.

Well keep at it we might need it some time soon.

Lord Ashur how are things with our military?

MY Queen of Queens, we know have a small number of large warships as well as a large number of strike craft. They have been more than able to deal with all indigenous life forms we have found. None of them have had space travel but some have been hard work to gain control off. However so far none have put up more than a limited fight and our Hive-Ships have had the resources to deal with them.
Our savants are working on newer technologies just in case we meet a race with better abilities. However it is slow going because of all the other things we need to do.
What we could do with is more habitable planets as we now have Hive-Ships exploring a long way from home with no planets in sight. We have found another storm system and are trying to find a way around it at this time.

We have been traveling through this storm for months I did not know that stellar storms got this big, but my savants say that others have reported this phenomenon before. It is strange moving through space not being able to see anything. We can not even see the star or stars let alone planets and rocks. We could be passing an advanced race and not even see them. It’s just so hard, the crew are getting restless and losing heart. We must find a way out of here soon or they will go mad.

Savant Uarg-nic, I am impressed with the new defense base your engineers have come up with. I see that it has a good amount of space for a hive to locate to in case of danger and good protection for them. That is good we do not want to endanger our workers when we test our new planetary weapons.

My Lord Ashur, my workers have worn their mandibles to the core getting this first one done. The design will be passed to all Hives with orders to build at least 1.

Uarg what of its offensive abilities?

My lord we are giving them a missile or mass driver and a anti missile system, that should help defend the planet and keep small enemy craft at bay while our strike craft hit back.

After a journey of many months we reached the tunnel leading us to the lost.
Unfortunately moving down the tunnel caused us damage, mainly to non vital systems but still we needed to repair. Here we were many Hives’s from home and no ship yards. But as luck would have it we found the lost ones. While they were waiting to be found they had set up a colony on a barren moon and had managed to fashion a repair yard from what was left of there Hive ship “Core 4”. Captain Qu-ark-ty has done a marvellous job of getting his crew to survive, and thank the smell he did for he has saved us as well.
Now we are repaired we can continue to scout out this strange system. It is full of storms just like another system our ships have found. What with the funny black tunnel one way and a damaging tunnel the other I doubt that we will find any thing of use or be able to explore very far but who knows eh.
Please tell the Queen of Queens that we are doing our duty and will continue to explore this strange new area of space. However I doubt that there is any life or planets out here.

I wish to report that my crew have done a marvelous job of converting our ship into a new hive. More than that, they also have managed to build a new ship to continue to explore this strange system. We thank you for the ships you sent to find us, we have repaired them and sent them on their way. We are no longer lost and I am giving control of this Hive to its queen as from now. I will continue to support her as her military adviser.

Lord Ashur I hear we have meet a new race please give me the details.

My Queen of Queens, they appear to be a small rodent like race, but they do have space travel. Our first contact was incited by them as they appear to have longer ranged sensors than us. Instead of trying to contact us they chased one of our Hive Queens although they have better drive than us it was not enough to catch our ship which as per first contact orders avoided conflict. We have sent a sub-space message to them but our experts do not think we will get much of a response as they are clearly aggressive.
It is just as well that we built our new defence bunkers when we did or our Hives would be at risk.

Lord Ashur, what are we doing to prepare for conflict?

My Queen we have started moving our ship yards over to warship production and we are increasing our output of Strike Craft. I do not think our planets are at to much risk at this time but we will make sure that the ones in the contact are reinforced with more units and ships.
Our experts think that although this race has better electronics and engines than us our weapons are at least a couple of generations ahead of theirs. Of course the ship we found could just be a older design used for exploring it which case there weapons might be nearly as good as ours. I expect that we will find out in the fullness of time.

Lord Ashur what is the news from the contact with the Mithrak?

My Queen of Queen’s, we are surprised they have accepted our non-aggression treaty; however they are still probing our systems. We have some more info on another of their ships, this one is called a bombardier it has a nuclear missile rack on it and seems designed to take out planets. Unfortunately they also got info on one of our latest ships so they now we are using energy weapons and shields. Their missiles out range us but our shielding is better than there armour.
We shall have to work on some better anti-missile defences as there missile weapons are a few generations ahead of ours and our anti-missile units might not be able to deal with them.

Lord Ashur you are doing a good job please continue and make sure our borders are secure.

My Queen I will do as you ask, and we will continue to build up our forces.

Lord Ashur what is the latest news from the contact with the Mithrak?

MY Queen of Queen’s, after last months incursion by them in the north we now have them attacking us in the West. Their ship Ameth 1 fought one of our Runner class explorers, our ship ram as per its orders but even so managed to inflect 50% dam on its pursuer. This shows the superiority of our designs over there’s, as ours only had 1 cannon to there two.
On top of this our agents have managed to infiltrate Mira II and damaged it.

Now some of there race have decided to come and live on our planets we have a better idea of them. They are stronger than us and smarter, but we are better adapted to other environments and reproduce quicker as well as being happier.

Lord Ashur what are you doing about their incursions?

My queen, we have sent a strongly worded message to them demanding reparations for their incursions. We are also improving the defences of the frontier systems and planets. However the distance means it takes time.

Good we will not stand for any threat to our sisters.

Mira II in Mithrak space

Another day another job, I like working for the Formicdae, they pay well and treat me well. Last night I had a good old time, me and my mates stuck into the space yard on the civilian base, no security and no checks it was so easy. Then we just started planting small bombs here and there. Such fun we made it seem like gas leaks and such but it was us trying to help our new masters.
My family are safe on a Formicdae planet and I will retire there in a few more months when another team comes to take my place. I do not know why my people allowed trade with the Formicdae, but it means they can use rats like me to do there work.
I expect that they will terminate the treaty soon but the harm has already been done there are millions of us in Formicdae space to be used to disrupt the Mithrak war effort.
I wonder what I will be doing next, nothing dangerous I hope, I like the easy jobs no risk at the moment.

Well Lord Ashur we have some good news.

Yes Savant Vaad-aur what is it.

My Lord, we have been experimenting with using the lesser formicdae, we have found on all planets, as agents.
We have found that we can transmit a single through a tunnel to control a hive of these lesser brothers.

Yes yes but what good is that to us?

Well my Lord we can use them to disrupt planetary activity, they can infect food sources bite through cables, dig up transport links, they may be small but that is there great advantage.
It seems that we can use our stridulation to have a two way communication with them giving them instructions and getting limited information back.

Well that is good news now we do not have to rely on just using Mithrak citizens on our planets, nor do we have to work out how to sneak them in and out.

Lord Ashur, have we got full com’s back now? And what happened?

My Queen of Queens, all is well, we have to still reorder some orders for ships and other units but in the main our Hive is back under your control. We think that the experimenting with using the lesser formicdae disrupted our inter system com lines. We have disciplined the guilty savant’s and set up a separate com link for Intel use.

Good that’s what I wanted to hear. Now how is the expansion going and what about those Mith’s?

My Queen, during the last few months we have had a few run-ins with their ships, we have destroyed 3 of their explorers who where trying to gain access to the Hive. Our ships performed well in each encounter and no loses were taken. We have however amended our orders to some of our ships in the light of battle experience.
We have also got wind of them building up a colony and a battle force in one of our border systems. I am working on a counter to that as soon as I can.
Further good news is our expansion is still going well in other directions and at long last we have found some Hive planets as good as home. These will eventually give us a new base to expand from and more resources for the Hive.

Well done Lord Ashur, this all seems to be going well.

Savant Vaad-aur’s report on Intel actions in Mithrak space.

Other the last few months our Mith agents and our cousins have tried to disrupt the Mithrak infrastructure. Quite a few have been caught and brutally killed; they are heroes of the Hive. We now of at least one attempt that has succeeded unfortunately the operatives were caught and killed so we do not know what they managed but we do know that they blew up various facilities on Mveloem III, were ever that is.

My advice is to continue the attacks as they must be diverting Mith resources from other activities and forcing them to crack down on there own people. That can only help us in the long run as they will migrate to our freer worlds.

Captain Qu-ark-ty in Charge of Runner ship 4.

My Queen of Queens, I am now continuing to explore and claim systems for your greatness. This ship was built by the lost and is a very good ship it is a pleasure to command it. I am now in a system a few hives from the lost and have had my first clash with the Mith. My crew and I saw off the funny smelling ones, who bravely charged at us, they are a noble race even if they are not as good at fighting as we are. There ships are fast and full of electronic sensors, they also have some good Mass driver cannons which although effective are not as accurate as our energy cannons. So far I have not encountered any of there advanced missile ships, but I am sure that that will happen soon.

Rest assured my queen that I will not let the rodents set up camp in my patrol area.

What a rush, I Ratty have done it.

I am in they have excepted by request to emigrate to the Hive’s.
I know they wanted me to do a job first but hey its only fair they are going to give me a new start.

The job, eh now that’s the point.

I had to blow up a research lab, I know its wrong but hey it’s a new freer life.

How did I do it?
Well it was quite fun really I talked my neighbor into joining me and we planed to load his land Skoda hover transport with a mixture of various things and got him to drive it into the compound. I stayed outside with the getaway Skoda and I said he had 10 parts of a rotation to get out.

I lied I knew that the guards would not wait that long to respond so I set it for a very short time after the impact.

Poor thing he never knew what happened, one moment he was getting out and trying to get clear of the wreckage. Then boom, bang boom. He and everything else was gone and I had my ticket.

Shame about the neighbor but what the …. One rat has to think of himself.

We have heard of a force of Mithrak settling on planets claimed by us in this system. They also appear to have warships in the area.
I am making all speed to deal with this incursion which is in violation of our Hive space.
I am expecting no major trouble as our warriors are ready and eager for the fight. I expect to be the first to have a major encounter with our foes. Hopefully they will not have to many of their missile armed ships in the area.

My Queen in the last 2 months we have had many victories, I will tell you of two.
Last month my fleet came across a Mithrak force of 4 frigate sized ships and we chased then down and dealt with all four of them. This month we followed up our success by moving on the planet Marjoram I, we fought our way past the small enemy defences and landed our warriors onto the planet and have captured it intact. I give this victory to you my Queen and send you gifts from this new world. You will be pleased to know that we captured 19m Mithrak’s in this operation.
I will continue this campaign and hope to have more successes to report in the future.

Lord Ashur, what is happening on our borders at this time?

My Queen of Queens, we have had success in the west capturing a planet in the Marjoram system, Lord Sargon is to be given the order of the Hive 3rd class for his exploits. He and his men have performed exceedingly well and should be given a pay bonus.
In the north our force has encountered two Mithrak’s planet’s and again in a heroic action took them from the Mithrak. I am led to believe that it was the action of our 110m colonists there who neutralized the militia of the 133m Mithrak’s on Acruk IX while Acrux III was just a straight fight. Again the high command would like to praise the efforts of these warriors and there commander.
On top of these success’s our little brothers and sisters have managed to damage 3 installations in the last couple of months. They are proving very effective agents, large numbers and very difficult to detect. Our Savants say that they expect more success to follow as they fine tune the control of the little ones.

So my Queen of Queens as you can see from the map’s we are continuing to expand and we are also pushing back the Mithrak who have now declared war on us. So far our planetary defences have not been tested and we are confident that they will be effective, as our Warrior Strike Craft have proved to be.
My Queen is there anything else you need?

I am sorry to say that this game has come to a halt. The Mithrak have decided that they can no longer play due to time constraints.
