Sun & warp point = crash

Submitted by obliwobly on Thu, 2007-07-12 07:42. Space Empires V General

Can you help me understand what is happening here?

I just reinstalled SE5 after many months away to see how progress is going. I used unnamed AI mod and set up galaxy with warp points placed in default mode patch v 1.35.

On turn 2 I discover a warp point at the edge of the system which also has a sun on it. When I click on that hexagon the game crashes. I replayed from save and the same thing happens.

So am I to take it this is a bug with warp points in 1.35 or is it a bug with unnamed AI ?

Either way, definitely a game stopper. How do I configure to make sure it doesnt happen next game I start?

Sounds like you need to send that save game off to Aaron. not sure how to do that though.

SEV, more than a feeling.

The AI mod doesn't affect object placements in systems and the AIs don't know how to use Stellar Manipulation, so it was either at the initial galaxy creation or a random event gone horribly wrong.

Definitely send the save game file to MM so he can take a look.

OK I have sent a report and savegame in to Aaron at Malfador. After a bit of testing I found that there were several extra suns in the home sector of the dodgy map and clicking any one of them crashed the game. It is as if suns had been substituted for planets and warp points.

I have since been able to start a game with a normal galaxy map, so it may just have been a problem initialising the setup.

did you create a new game without exiting the program first? i find this leads to the creation of strange and buggy maps.

When I built my new computer, I installed SEV and FQM but initially forgot to install the FQM texture packs...fired up the game, made a new quadrant and everything in my home system looked like the system's sun. Guess that's what happens when the game can't find the textures referenced in the data files.

Exited, installed the texture packs, fired it back up and loaded that game - presto, everything had its correct "skin".

Don't know if that will help you or not.
