Starbases as resupply depots |
Hi,
Can a starbase packed with supply, ordnance, cargo storage, and a bunch of quantum reactors able to generate supplies and store them for future?
Is such a base able to resupply ships in ONLY that sector, or does it resupply ships in the system (like a resupply depot)?
If previous answers are yes/yes, then am I correct in building these bases and scrapping resupply depots in favor of other buildings?
Dave.
Re: Starbases as resupply depots
Maybe work up a Resupply module(s). Either that or what used to work under SE3 iirc, was to form a fleet, share resources, then split the fleet.
Re: Starbases as resupply depots
it might be more effecient to build baseship resupply stations, or whatever the biggest hull you have. Then you could have the supply center travel with the fleet(s).

Re: Starbases as resupply depots
In IRM, there is a component which is exactly what you're looking for (as in, it even does the Resupply Depot's auto-resupplying in the system), but I suspect you're not playing IRM.

Re: Starbases as resupply depots
You can use this for oversupply too, remember your supply bases will eventually fill up everything in the sector, so this allows more storage for when that big fleet returns empty.

Re: Starbases as resupply depots
Quantum reactor and solar panels are available through resupply and stellar harnessing,
Planet resupply facilities can send resuply and ordinance all over the system. Ship or base components do not automatically move extra supply and ordinance to a depleted vessel. You must do so manually.
The description on most components explains the capability and restrictions.

Re: Starbases as resupply depots
No Davor I think your right, Quantum meant, I hope, that your Starbase won't automatically supply your fleet. The excess supply generated from your planets should go to the Starbase if there is room and there is no other ships to be supplied. I think that's right? I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.
Re: Starbases as resupply depots
I took a look at the way IRM did it and found that this formula can also be applies to ship comoponents, not just planetary facilities.
Ability 3 Type := Remote Supply Distribution
Ability 3 Description := Distributes up to [%Amount1%] supply to vehicles in the same solar system at the end of each turn.
Ability 3 Scope := System - This Player
Now what i would really like to know is if there is a formula that can isntruct ships to automatically resupply when in the same sector as a starbase. The formula above distributes supplies to ships in the entire system, but im only interested in the sector itself.
Does anybody know how to do that ?
Re: Starbases as resupply depots
PS: I've just tested the IRM resupply factory compoent on a frigate and it doesnt seem to work....
Re: Starbases as resupply depots
That was an IRM bug I am sure was squashed by version 0.9x as I used starbase resuply bases in several games and they worked as I recall I would PM Fallen Haven he is still about on the forum

thanks though.
Re: Starbases as resupply depots
Such a base would be able to generate and store supplies but any resupplying would have to be done manually and only in that sector. however without ordanance vats (the organic tech things) it would be unable to generate ordanance. not sure why you'd want it to have cargo storage on it if it was for resupply work though.
so, as long as you didn't mind having to manually resupply everything you could use these to cut down on the resupply centers, but reordanance will still be needed, however i find ordanance is always overproduced with respect to supply.
(be aware a resupply at nearest order would ignore such stations and head for the nearest planet with supplies)
