German Forum |
given the recent release of a german language version of SEV is it fair we have no German forum.
I dont think so and would sugest that one is added as I know what its like having to use a non native languae forum.

Re: German Forum
A German forum would be real great! Hope we get one!

Re: German Forum
Bin auch für ein deutsches forum... .. *bump*

Re: German Forum
Hi Guys, it would be nice to get a german forum... where we can talk about german thinks and organisate german translations for good mods or something!
Greats, Duplex
Re: German Forum
As I see it, there are a few potential problems with adding language specific forums. I just post these as things to consider (food for thought, if you will).
1) The sysadmins and moderators can't really administer/moderate threads in a language they cannot read. This might make Strat First management wary of the idea, and is probably the biggest hurdle to overcome for anything official.
2) You won't be able to get help on questions posted in a language many of the users of the forum can't read. Having a single common language keeps everyone on the same page.
3) If you add a German language version, you have to add all of the other languages SE5 is sold in (French, Spanish, Italian) to be fair, which will further fragment the user base.
4) Don't worry too much about less-than-stellar English grammar; plenty of native speaking posters have a poor grasp on the language as it is.
Re: German Forum
Some feedback to the food for thought
1.) I agree to 100%. Manageing a German forum might be a problem for the sysadmins. But - as far as I'm aware of - the English forums aren't moderated in a strict way either. So having the "report post" link would be the first way, additionally some German users might be willing to offer assistance (if wanted of course).
2) You are right again. But for sure users with a basic knowledge of German and English will be active in both forums, and ideas will spread over both languages.
3) That's the easiest one to debate on
: Isn't there already a French forum? (Didn't use the French language button yet)
4) Well... humm.. Thanks. At least that makes things less worse. But I'm sure that it's not "just" a headache for native-speakers to read the essence of some English lessons, these innovative sentences have to be invented first. What I wanted to say: Describing problems in a detailed and understandable way is not always easy, the game being localized and German making things even worse. For sure some questions, e.g. concerning the lame AI or having "mute" empires, will be solved in native language much faster and easier.

Re: German Forum
3) The French button only translates the non-added content in french (and not even the forum descriptions).
Re: German Forum
I'd wager that the French interface setting only exists because S1st is based in Quebec, and legally compelled to have French versions of their sites.

Re: German Forum
is there anywhere an german forum ?
an english forum with people has another patch version than
people with the german version isnt helpful.
Re: German Forum
You can always install the "English" version from your game disk and patch it to the latest US patch version. You can even keep two installs side by side, one German and one English.

Re: German Forum
thats not really helpfull.
i paid for the german version - so i will play this.
no time to play two versions - games.
Re: German Forum
Not being beholden to some random translation company's schedule to translate patches is not helpful? Being able to play all the mods and use the custom shipsets without hassle is not helpful? Being able to actually play with an international audience, not just other Germans with the German version of the game, is not helpful?

Re: German Forum
nen deutsches wäre besser und was ist mit dem deutschen patch hab mir das game fürn 20 geholt aber die KI ist DUMM obwohl ich schon die 1.33v hab bitte um antwort
Re: German Forum
Version 1.33 is way, way out of date. You will want to patch it to the latest, 1.74...

Re: German Forum
Whoops... Just noticed this post today.
Although I feel somehow capable to deal with the English forum, I'd welcome a German one. Then nobody would be forced to read my "interpretations" of the English grammar, and all of you English readers would avoid a headache.
