Question: Fleets

Submitted by Romulus68 on Mon, 2007-06-18 14:58. Space Empires V FAQs

How do you make ships break formation?

Can you make certain ships or the whole fleet break formation at certain intervals during the combat? ie.....the Carriers break formation after they launch all there fighters or something along those line.

To make sure I understand. Breaking formation will cause the ships to act on their own orders based on how it was set on ship creation.

Follow up question....
Can you change orders on an already built ship?
If yes, is it a per ship order change basis or based on the design as a whole. IE....Ship class in "Attack One" and I have 5 "Attack One" ships built. Can I give 3 orders for short range and 2 at long OR the ships use the order set for the "Attack One" class making all 5 be the same order?

You can edit the strategies via the Empire Options menu so that ships will break formation. It should be the default for all strategies in the Balance Mod.

Breaking formation will force the ships to follow their design type strategy.

You can't use mixed strategies with the same design type except by grouping them into different task forces and applying different strategies. You might have to experiment a bit to see what settings will actually accomplish that.

Ah, I get it now. I wondered how the Taskforce options were used. It makes Fleets with-in Fleets.

My problem was my slower freighters were bogging down my Frigates as they stayed in formation, so If i make a task force I can put the slower ships in there with their own orders. But, the fleet will still move as one on main map, correct?
