Captains Log 1

Newly appointed Captain Owen Atlas of the IGF Pendulum (Imperial Galactic Fleet).

This is my first assignment as captain of my own vessel. Admiral Foste sent me the first transmissions about the construction of the Pendulum only two months ago. I had no idea they could put these vessels together so swiftly. Right away they pulled me off my previous assignment as the assistant commander of the Hover Cruiser Baradon and put me into deep space training. I must say, originally I was not pleased with the change. Everything I had heard about off planet assignments was less than stellar (haha).

I had no idea they intended to make me captain until the last week of training. The Admiral came to see me in a surprise visit at the training center. He informed me that I was the chosen captain of the newest of only two ion powered interplanetary vessels. I was taken on a tour of the nearly completed vessel and the next day introduced to my five officers and a number of the crew. I made repeated trips back to the Pendulum that week to oversee the final fittings.

Today we have all hands on deck, a crew of 50, and after a short ceremony we have been launched into orbit. This is nothing like the ships of my father’s day. These new ion engines and the artificial gravity they provide make space travel nothing like the free floating space walks I experienced in training. I’ve just finished my first full inspection of the Pendulum as a fully operational vessel and I am very impressed with the ship and my crew.

Ship specs –
The IGF Pendulum is a Dirk II class frigate. It is outfitted with the latest tech; two six cell class three Ion Engines, two phase five capital missile launchers, type two solar scanners, ample ordinance storage lockers, but minimal hull armor. The crew quarters and bridge are nothing too special; they remind me of the planet side hover cruisers like the Baradon.

After our preliminary orbital tests we set our course for one of the unexplored warp points in our home solar system of Zitrod. We expect to reach it within the month.

Captains Log 2

Captain Owen Atlas of the IGF Pendulum

We passed through the appointed warp point into the system beyond. The trip was a little unsettling, but the ship held together just fine. We ran some quick star scans and found we had passed nearly instantly into the neighboring Ibsunk system. After analyzing the data from scans of the inside of the warp conduit, as well as the scans of the corresponding warp point found in this system, we believe this to be a stable and dependable access route between these two systems.

We have scanned the system but can see little from our current position. Therefore, we have set a course which will first take us along the outskirts of the system. We will remain within scanning range of the outer ort cloud as we pass around the entire system. Once complete we will continue to the interior of the system. Our navigator estimates it will take just over four month to chart the entire system.

With a little good fortune we hope to find more warp points or even a new rock world which might be civilizable one day. In our home system our home world is the only rock world to be found. There are several ice worlds (useless) and one gas giant world with plenty of Hydrogen to breath, but our scientists have not yet found a way for us to live in those unfamiliar conditions. The scientists tell us there are many suitable rock worlds to be found in the neighboring systems and though they may not be hydrogen atmospheres they have plans that should allow us to establish dome protected colonies. Here’s hoping.

Captain’s Log 3

Captain Owen Atlas of the IGF Pendulum

Our surveys of the Ibsunk system have borne little of use, but some troubling discoveries. The best news is the two new warp points discovered. Our hope is to get approval from Imperial Command (IC) to proceed on into the next system. We found three new rock worlds, but their atmospheres will cause colonization to be limited.

One of these new rock planets, which possessed a prominently oxygen atmosphere, appears to have strange ruins upon the surface. They appear to be remains from some ancient race long gone. This news will be disturbing to populations back home. We have always wondered about the possibility of otherworldly life forms and feared the prospects. The idea that such life forms could live in such a foreign atmosphere is even more disturbing. How could any creature live and evolve on such a world. I have issued orders that this information is to be kept completely confidential. Only my officers are aware of the discovery so far, and I am sending my report to IC on a coded frequency.

The IGF Leaver has joined us in this system. She is a slightly newer ship, a Dirk III frigate with enhanced missile capabilities. They have taken up sentry duty near one of the warp points we discovered. Orders have reached me that we are to do the same near the other warp point in this system and once we are in place the both of us are to proceed to enter our respective warp points. There has been a slight change in tactics however. Once we enter the new system we are to remain on sentry duty around the warp point until reinforcements arrive.

Captain’s Log 4

Captain Owen Atlas of the IGF Pendulum

We passed into the new system and ran our preliminary scans. We have passed into the Vintindrin system. There is nothing of consequence within scanning range and with our orders of sentry duty it does not sound like we will be doing much for some time. To my knowledge there is only one shipyard in the Empire and if all exploration efforts have switched to a defensive posture it will be many months before they can build and crew enough ships to support each of us.

Adendum -

News has reached us from IC that the IGF Sprocket was lost. The claim is that they were tasked with scanning a black hole system. The navigator apparently misjudged the required distance to the event horizon. The results were tragic. A push for newer scanning technology is now a priority.

My first mate tells me that the crew has begun to get jumpy. The fear is that some other race came across the Sprocket and destroyed it.

Captain’s Log 5

Captain Owen Atlas of the IGF Pendulum

It has been six months now with no new orders. Communication lines are open and we are hearing of progress made in other systems, but so far no reinforcements in this system.

Glorious things are happening for the empire. There are reports of new colonies in two systems including the Ibsunk. The crew takes some pride in making that colonization possible through our charting efforts.

We have also heard of a new shipyard being built in the Pantrissa system. This is good news and hopefully will lead to a quicker supply of reinforcement ships.

Captain’s Log 6

Captain Owen Atlas of the IGF Pendulum

Good news, our reinforcements have arrived. It took them two months just to reach us through the two warp points, but the IGF Fulcrum (another Dirk III frigate) arrived yesterday. We are now given orders to continue charting the Vintindrin system while the Fulcrum holds sentry duty at the warp point.

We have charted an optimal five month survey course like in the Ibsunk system and are getting underway now.

The crew is ecstatic.

Today marks the beginning of a new and dreaded era in the lives of the Neoin people. We have just come within scanning range of an alien infested world. A mutated and horrible form of life which can only barely be considered sentient has been discovered upon the planet. These creatures have put together some form of rudimentary domed environment protective structures upon the surface of an entirely inhospitable ice world. What sickly form of life could possibly inhabit such a world is unknown.

It is our hope that we may pass unnoticed for now while we transmit details of our discovery to IC. My officers once again have been given orders to keep knowledge of this completely secret.
