How do you Retrofit and Patrol

Submitted by MikeyBikey on Sat, 2007-06-02 16:42. Space Empires V General

The manual says that I can upgrade (retrofit), however I can't find a way as to how to do it. Could someone explain in simple terms how to retrofit?

Also Patrol, the manual says to click on the first point of the patrol and then the second point. In the game, I get an option for the first point but not the second. How does patrol work?

Also Survey mode, is there something that stops the ship from surveying and reports when it is finished?

Mike

I'm at work so you'll have to excuse me if I get this wrong.

Retrofit:
Ctrl + . (Full Stop/Period)
You will have to be on a construction facility or the like, it is also through a button, I think second from the left in the bottom row, which brings up a sub-menu, It's the one with the hammer I think. Just some points about Retrofitting - It has to be the same ship size type, as in Frigate to Frigate, the tonnage will upgrade though. Also there is a 50% limit on the amount of changes, or the cost of changes, I can't remember. Hope this helped, if not I'll check it tonight for you.

Survey:
It just tells the ship to explore the system, when all the red hex's are gone the ship will stop and it'll just be sitting there waiting for an order, should show up in your space bar/next ship thingy.

For patrolling I can't help you at all, but if you select a ship that is surveying and press backspace, the ship will clear it's orders and stop surveying.
A good thing to know about retrofitting, you can retrofit a ship to a more advanced hull of the same type. For example, you can retrofit a level 1 Frigate to a level 2 or 3 Frigate.

I think a ship can patrol between 2 waypoints. Check the manual. Waypoints can be set using Ctrl+0 through 9. (It took me quite some time to figure out how to create waypoints)

Those waypoints you set by using ctrl + # are different from patrol waypoints. Patrol just asks you for a point, and your ship will "patrol" from where it is to the point you give it and back.

I guess you could use your set waypoints for this, but it seems wasteful.

Patrol: keep repeating the process: click patrol, select the next hex you want, and repeat. It says "first", but it's keeping track. Once you select the hex that you started on, then it implements the order.

Basically, all "patrol" does is to build a repeat move order. You could get the same thing by entering a series of move commands and making it a repeated order set.

I *think* a patrol order will clear if an enemy is detected in the system, much like the sentry command.
