Single player games - settings

Submitted by ogbendog on Wed, 2007-05-30 14:57. Space Empires V FAQs

I'm wondering what game setup's people use to make single player fun (i.e. challenging)

I've been using Balance mod, generally playing the Terrans or a close varient (Rock/O2).

My current game is a "desert" sector, which means lots of empty systems, or asteroids and such, so good colonzable planets are more rare; I'm hoping this will lead to war before my tech and production outstrips everyone else

For a challenging single player game, I play in a minimally sized galaxy (9-12 systems) where empires can start in the same system, with the maximum number of CPUs (14-20), set on high difficulty, with a low bonus. Set tech cost to high, and start with medium technology points. The result is a large set of empires crammed into a small amount of space vying brutally for resources, with good starting technology that won't go obsolete (since the computer seems to have trouble scrapping out of date hardware).
