Boosting manufacturing capability?

Submitted by Mylon on Wed, 2007-05-30 14:50. SE:V MODs

Is it possible to boost a planet's manufacturing capability in some manner? I would like a means to continuously extend a planet's manufacturing capabilities much like a planet can extend it's resource/research production. The simplest means would be to allow a player to construct multiple space yards, but currently only one may exist per planet, which means a workaround of some sort will be required. Has anyone figured out such a workaround?

How about a facility which provides a space yard rate bonus with Space Object scope? I forget what the ability's called, but look at the Hardy Industrialists racial trait... of course, the facilities wouldn't stack unless perhaps you had several different facilities - maybe you could have a Space Yard Core (the standard spaceyard), and various researchable expansions ala which do basically the same thing (provide bonuses to the core) but stack because they're different facilities (sort of like in MOO3)...
Potential names for the expansions:
Zero-G Fabrication Facility
High Energy Binding Yard
Automated Factory
Orbital Drydock
... anything that sounds like it can assist in constructing ships Eye-wink

Unfortunately, such gains would be finite, compared to having, say, 30 facilities on one planet and being able to produce anything in one turn.

Regardless, it sounds better than the current situation.

Not if you had 30 different facilities... the two traits cancel each other out, right?

Ability 9 Type := Space Yard Rate Modifier
Ability 9 Description := Space Yards on ships/bases increases production rate of planetbound Yards by [%Amount1%]%.
Ability 9 Scope := Sector - This Player
Ability 9 Range Formula := 0
Ability 9 Amount 1 Formula := 2 + (([%Level%] - 1) * 1)
Ability 9 Amount 2 Formula := 0
Ability 10 Type := Description Only
Ability 10 Description := Only 1 Space Yard effective for modifying planetary yards.
Ability 10 Scope := Sector - This Player
Ability 10 Range Formula := 0
Ability 10 Amount 1 Formula := 0
Ability 10 Amount 2 Formula := 0
Weapon Type := None

This is only a limited means (added onto ship space yard/base space yards) but it is also possible to just add in another formula that increases the space yard rate for every level of 'X' tech discovered...

I went ahead and added a few buildings. One takes up 4kT and provides a 400% boost to the existing space yard rate, one takes up 10kT, and another takes up 25kT, each scaling the production capability linearly with space taken (but the cost is not linear). This way the job is achieved without taking up a lot of space in the building list.

Oh, MT, I guess. I forget the scale involved, I'm just tired of using so many zeroes. Smiling But yeah, I added a facility bigger than many planets! Smiling
