Fold-Space Technology

Submitted by Quantum on Wed, 2007-05-30 13:16. Space Empires V General

I have spoken with the great Captain Kwok, Dimension Technology has been left at the wayside. We're not getting it. So I propose a new use for the silently mocking Fold Space button in the lower right. A teleportation device to put your ship anywhere you have explored.

Just like the event that sometimes happens, a ship is testing the engines, a little tweak here, a little tweak there, the maintenancy guy/gal drops their lunch onto an exposed wire, there's a short circuit, and POW! Your poor little ship is on the other side of the quadrant. And just when it can't get any worse, the computer is fried and you have no idea how it happened.

Well now you have a controllable teleportation device (idea) though expensive, that can get your engine of destuction, (codename fluffy) past the annoying wall of ten warp points. Yep, no more worrying about that darn gravitation facility or too many warp points.

The problem is, we will all need to email Aaron and ask him to make this work. This tech will hopefully be the last on the stellar manipulation tree, the ultimate tech, aquired very late in the game.

Oh, look, the AI finally learned to manipulate warp points and turtled, awww. Lets just drop a nova bomb on top of him to say "HI! wanna surrender now?" Too bad that ship just cost me the time and resources of a Dyson sphere.

So, does anyone like my idea? If the answer is yes, please email Aaron at and lets get things in motion.

What's the best way to get ideas to Aaron? email or posting?

SEV, more than a feeling.

Posting seems too compact, unless you're very, VERY rude.

As far as I am aware, Aaron does not have time to read the forum, just send him an email. Captain Kwok reads the forum and lets Aaron know what goes on here.

Are you suggesting mass-mailing (aka, spamming) Aaron? That's a questionable way to achieve anything, truly, and of dubious effectiveness...

Suckingup sometimes works with some people, it never hurts to try.

As much as I would like to see the Space Fold function activated as well, I would have to agree that Spamming Aaron will most likely just annoy him.

There are other, more productive methods. Malfador has always been pretty good with keeping in touch with the communities wishes.

I didn't say spam Aaron.

If you like the idea, let him know and he may add it.

I'd suggest not sending an email to him only to say that you like a single idea, unless it's a very thought out email. Take some time to group up a few ideas into one email.

As far as I know, he has a massive file containing just about every suggestion he has ever received, so you will be heard and put on the list. With enough support, he may implement the change.

Why not just use the tech tree?

Add components so you can open up wormholes, go through and close them again (and dont forget to add the repair component to your ship). Sure, its expensive, but later on in the game you will be able to afford it.

Teleporting any ship to any sector can easily be done by using the current setup by creating a new item and placing it in the tech tree.
A better purpose of the Fold-Space button would be in sector teleportation. Travel from planet to warp point or the sun or where ever you want, instantly by using the Fold Space button.

I like this, but are you saying that there is already a fold space button that does nothing?
