SE:V v1.37 Changelog

Captain Kwok's picture
Submitted by Captain Kwok on Fri, 2007-05-25 19:49. Space Empires V General

Lots of good fixes for strategies. Also note any order can now be issued for an object in the scripts now as well.

---

Version 1.37:
1. Fixed - Sometimes processing of a turn would halt when a deconstruct & analyze order was executed.
2. Added - Script function "Give_Space_Object_Order_Any" to give orders not covered by other script functions.
3. Fixed - In a turn based game, a retrofit of multiple ships will now result in only one report window.
4. Fixed - Retrofit order will be available now even if multiple ships are selected.
5. Changed - Display of resources and points over a million will show as #,### kT.
6. Fixed - Fighters with no supply remaining will now move at 25% of their normal speed.
7. Fixed - If a strategy has a target type damage amount for a planet as "All Weapons Gone", then
when the planet has no weapons left in combat, no ships will fire on it. The behavior for other targets
with this damage amount setting is that they will be targeted last after all other targets are destroyed.
8. Removed - Strategy selection "Retreat Immediately". This can now be done through the "Retreat When" section.
9. Removed - Strategy selection "Retreat When All Weapons Damaged". This can now be done through the "Retreat When" section.
10. Fixed - The "Retreat When" section is now working better.
11. Fixed - The "Retreat Settings" section is now working better.

Regarding 8-11, will ships with no enemies in sight or that have no weapons still retreat, or can we customize it so they don't? Thinking of troop ships and PD ships, mainly.

Note this is just the changelog from the latest beta. The next patch is probably a few weeks away.

My workaround has been to use the "system notes" to track these items. It's a little clunky, but it can work. This is certainly one issue that shouldn't warrant not playing the game, at least not by itself.

Game's good, dont get me wrong, but the clunkiness needs to be addressed. In larger games when you have so many planets all over keeping track of where to send colony transports becomes extremely problematic. Obviouslt that's the tip of the iceberg. It's quite frustrating.

The problem is that now it is not displayed 3.4M but 3M, which is much too unprecise.

It's nice to see improvements to the UI, and to the retreat behaviors. Non-combat ship behavior in battles has been bothering me for a while, and it's one of the main reasons I don't use strategic combat.

There are some things I'd definitely like to see fixed very soon, however, such as not being able to set the leader in a fleet.

Still waiting for a better fleet transfer screen, pain in the arse trying to pick out dead or dying ships so the fleet can move again.

Still some good fixes, I could go for a 1.37 patch right now so modders can get down to AI stellar manipulation, unless I'm wrong and the 'any orders' function has nothing to do with that?

Yes, we need one column to show damage percentage and another to show experience points.

We absolutely need it. (!)

To get damage levels, you need to open the Fleet report window and then remember the names of the ships that got damaged as you go back to the Fleet Transfer window. EXP you can't see at all without going to individual ship reports.

Being able to set Task Force Leader would be the next Huge step forward.

Some useful things have been fixed this time around but im disappointed that they've yet to get round to fixing the Alliance system in the game.

For me, the alliances are one of the very best new features of SE5 and i'd have hoped they'd have taken priority over other bugs which are comparatively minor in my opinion. I wont waste your time detailing the bugs with Alliances - they are well documented and im sure you know what i mean - but at the moment they are effectively unusable so I really hope they get round to fixing them soon.

I have one hope that I do not belive would be difficult.

There are several places where you can design custom layouts.

1. Ship Layout
2, Construction cues
3. Colonies List
4, Create Items list (in construction que).

I would hope to have the ability to save these and be able to reuse them in each new game. There are some tremendous abilities here but having to redo them each game makes this very difficult.

That's another great one I'd like to see soon. I completely forgot what order Aaron said he was doing the patches in...I'd have to go read the irc transcript again, but I sincerely hope interface fixes are coming soon.

For those that don't know, he has stated the priority, something like, bugs/interface/ai or some such, you can go to the main page and check out the irc transcript. It's in there somewhere.

Ditto.

The alliance issue is huge but isn't getting the same attention as other "minor" problems. Maybe fixing the alliance bug is much more difficult than fixing these other problems?

Stop trying to hijack the thread and pick on me. Go look up gay on dictionary.com. There are multiple ways to use the word which has ceased to be being used disparagingly. My use was other than how you suggested I used it. How obtuse you were being. Of course you probably are expecting me to engage you on a lower level. I refuse, sir. Your contributions to the game are legendary, Fryon. I looked up to you, but to have you pick on me in such manner unwarrantedly has crushed my high opinions of you. A sad day indeed this is.

Back to the fleet UI improvement. Tell me why it's good the way it is and wouldn't be better how it's suggested above please, or step off.

OK, back on topic, for some reason someone's post reminded me of a nice little thing I'd like to see... Condensed battle reports! Those things take FOREVER to scroll through in the turn log - couldn't they be displayed SE4 style with only ONE listing of ships in combat? Perhaps with a column for notes such as "captured" or somesuch?
E.g.

empire	ship class size start dmg	end dmg	notes
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Jraenar	Wulfen 0001 Wulfen Frigate	(250kT) 0% 100%	destroyed by Eee
Jraenar	Wulfen 0002 Wulfen Frigate	(250kT) 0% 35%	captured by Eee
Eee	Aparoid 0001 Aparoid Destroyer (375kT) 15% 21%	survived
Terran	Starbug 4269 Starbug Frigate (250kT) 0% 10%	retreated to northwest

Oh, and also, not all of the displays of ship size show tonnage (some say "frigate (300kT)" and others just say "frigate"), and it would be nice if instead of just saying "large mount" for "mount used" on a component it would say "large mount, level 3" or somesuch...

I would have posted that no matter who used gay in that sexist way. Just because such homophobic sexism is common on some parts of the Internet doesn't mean it is ok to equate stupid things with "gay." It had nothing to do with you personally, Dizzy..

The current battle reports are pretty ridiculous. We've sent a lot of suggestions to Aaron about ways to reduce the clutter, but nothing so far. Just need more people to complain about it, I guess... email se5_at-malfador-dot_com.

So if I understand correctly, nothing gets done unless aaron gets bombarded with emails about it from multiple complainers? That's crazy! Are you srious? Does that really work?

Personally, I have never sent anything to MM as it still makes no sense to me to have an Official Forum that the Developer does not take the time to come and read.
Instead it is expected for us to write it all here and then send MM a mail telling him what he could have read here in the first place.

Personally, I'd rather have Aaron work on the code, than spend 4 hours a day reading every post, then spend time reading every email he gets. When your team has multiple devs, sure, you can waste time keeping up with forums. But when there is only one person involved, it makes little sense to want the dev to spend 75% of his work time keeping up with discussions, instead of working to improve the game. Emails are quick and easy; keeping up with forums can be quite time consuming.

Not sure if 1.35 was because of emails, but I know a patch was needed then and there, and it happened. I figured get enough attention in this thread about an issue and if enough agree, I have faith we'll see a fix for it.

And if done daily it can't take more than five-10 minutes to puruse the critical threads and scroll past the garbage. Also, last I heard he DOES check the forum.

Four Hours a day reading posts. Really! I know you simply pulled a number out of the air to make your point, but the reality is MM could likely read the Bug Threads in about 15-30 minutes a day to keep up with things.

Are you also saying that MM is working a full time job in producing the now smallish patches that are coming at longer intervals than when SEV came out?

I just do not buy off on your post as a reason for MM not to take time to read his own official forums in order to know what is happening with the product that is his livelihood.

Ok, I misunderstood. But how does he know what needs to be done 1st? I mean, shouldnt there be a sticky at the top of this forum explaining to everyone their need to email MM with their cares? I didnt know this was a serious thing. I had 'heard' of it... but dismissed it. Apparently, I've been typing here on the forums wasting my time?

The key to the e-mail is the inclusion of a saved game or some other artifact that can be debug to discover the source of an error. Another thing to consider is the time factor - I spend a lot of time here and I would be hard pressed to name most of the bugs or predict the most requested features. If you report bugs or ask for features here: http://www.spaceempires5.com/en-US/project/SE5 - then an e-mail is automatically generated and sent to MM.
