Slow mouse pointer when viewing ship details

Submitted by Apollon on Fri, 2007-05-25 08:49. Space Empires V General

Whenever I open a ship's detail window, my mouse pointer slows down to a crawl. Additionally, all the icons for the ship's components are wrong. It shows gas colonies instead of armour, rock colonies instead of depleted uranium cannons, etc.

1. Am I the only one who gets this? It's not mentioned anywhere in the forums (I did a superficial search).
2. How do I fix this?

It happens to me as well. The cause seems to be a 100% CPU usage when that window is opened. I don't have noticed the icon issue, as I don't use that window much because of this problem (I use the components tab). I have a 2.53 GHz CPU with 1.5 Gb of RAM, and the game uses about 80% CPU when sitting still

Thanks for your reply, Mindeye! Now at least I know I'm not alone.
FWIW, I have 1.8 GHz CPU and 1 GB RAM. 100% CPU is being used, even when SE5 is idle and minimised.

Have you tried setting video usage to "safe"? It helps on my machine, and it's a must on my friend's. This totally solved garbled component images (don't have a clue if they were correct or not).

Thank you, Dvoongar! That did it! It not only fixed the slow mouse pointer, but also the garbled and the mixed-up component images. Smiling

Thanks Dvoongar. Now CPU usage is 60% (SEV idle) and 80% (with that window opened) and doesn't seem to slow down so much Smiling

And I now remember that I also had to set Starfury to safe video usage because of garbled images in radar window

It seems to me that garbled images and wrong images with slowdown are two completely different problems... both solved by turning on Safe mode... the problem is that this slows down the whole game... so there's no good solution if you don't have a good PC...

Maybe "garbled" wasn't the correct word (sorry for my English). My problem with Starfury in Auto Video mode is that nebulae is showed like big pink blocks. Maybe there are more problems, I switched to safe mode so I don't know

The PC is quite good. Maybe is not a state of the art model, but isn't very old, plus I have upgraded the hardware since I bought it

A quick update: I downgraded my Nvidia video card drivers to an earlier version and now it works ok in auto video mode (my video card is old, and the last released version doesn't seem to work ok, although Nvidia says it is compatible)
