Fighters: Space or Ground Weapons on ground attacks??? |

I was reading the manual, comparing different weapons. The manual breaks down the same weapon into "space" and "ground" versions, where the space version is usually more destructive.
My question is: When fighters reach a planet's surface, are their weapons operating at space or ground efficacy?
I got this AI that's like Herrod and fortresses. He never attacks, he just keeps building new colonies and immediately stockpiles troops and defense platforms (unlaunched). I gotta figure out the fastest way to take this guy out before he colonizes the whole sector.
Thanks for any help you can give this novice.
Edit: Wait a minute....can fighters attack troops? I read in the forums that they could, but the manual says only troops can attack troops. Is there a mod where fighters can attack also? Clarification, please!
Re: Fighters: Space or Ground Weapons on ground attacks???
Any weapon that has ground stats and says it can target troops can target troops when in ground combat using their ground stats, even if they're equiped on a fighter.

Re: Fighters: Space or Ground Weapons on ground attacks???
I think all the weapons that can be used by fighters have both space and ground values. Since troops use the same weapons.
The only reason that the space combat values are higher is because large ships would be even more invincible against fighters.

call it atmospheric interference...that argument doesn't hold up on no-atmosphere planets but still

Re: Fighters: Space or Ground Weapons on ground attacks???
if fighters operate in ground combat they use the "ground" stats of a weapon.
if the fighter doesn´t have a weapon with ground stats it won´t fight.
