Random Events

One of the many awesome things I find in Space of Empires is the random events. What are some random events that have happened to you?

The only thing that's happened to me is that one of my cruisers somehow transported to the most distant sector I had just begun surveying. Kind of annoying when it was heading to battle on the other side of the sector....

I also read about a guy that lost all his population to an earthquake.

And there must be plagues 'cause there's medicine to combat them.

What else have you encourtered?

Yesterday, one of my major planets, with a single space station for defense had said space station mutiny. I decide to go kill said space station with ships, and it wipes out my planet before I can reach it. Fun.

So far I have seen only negative random events. Are there any positive random events?

Yes. Negative events that happen to enemies.

Seriously, I don't know. I've only seen supply leaks (I'm pretty sure they were events, not sabotage) and a mutiny, but I'd like to fight a space monster.

Holy crap, that's scary if ships or bases can spontaneously mutiny.

Killed off everyone on the planet??? Jeez, those were some pissed-off soldiers.

I had a whole planet mutiny. It was early in the game, and I took it back the very next turn. Scary, but a small inconvenience when it's all said and done.

In SE4 I once played a game where I started in a back corner of nowhere, lousy system, with two nebulae and a black hole between me and the rest of the universe. By the time I successfully got a couple colony ships past that hole, there were (hostile) aliens in the next system.

I hunkered down and concentrated on Stellar Manipulation, turned the rocks and wrong-atmosphere planets in my home system into planets of my species' atmosphere type, and kept working on Stellar Manipulation until I could make a ring world.

Made the ring world and moved my population to it en masse, the other planets were pretty much stripped by that point and completely useless except as research stations. (I've always played with Finite Resources)

Two turns later, the ringworld seceded from my empire, leaving me with about 20M population, a few ships that I couldn't maintain for more than a turn or two, and no resources to mine.

I've had events turned off ever since.

If it weren't for bad luck, you'd have no luck at all. Wow!

That has got to be the worst luck I've ever heard of rdunham3. No wonder you don't like events.

I had an earthquake, all the people died (0/4000M population). Next turn new colonists migrated and still had all the buildings.

If you lower the event severity, you won't see planetary rebellions. In SE4, they happen only on high severity.

I've had meteor storms and earthquakes wipe out some population. If I remember right, too, I've had my star blow up once... that one stunk. Lots of fuel leaks and explosions on ships. And, yes, there ARE plaques... that one stunk too. Of course, I like having events turned max and possibly catastrophic.

Yes - there are plagues, so the medical labs are useful.
I've only had 1 plague, but it wiped out a bunch of people on a planet.

Because nobody haven't told any positive events, I assume that there are not such event...

I have had other empire ships defect to me. Nothing like acquiring a ship on the other side of the sector, with no ability to resupply or return to my space.

I think I've had a random event that improved planet conditions so positive events should be there, they're just rarer than bad events

I somehow acquired a planet from an empire I hadn't met yet in a system far far away, seriously I had no idea how to get to it. I thought, sure this is ok, until I found out that it had a plague on it, then they started rioting, and because it wasn't connected to my empire I couldn't build anything. To cut a long story short, everyone died and the planet vanished back into the black abyss. I don't have any idea why, I know I didn't cause it.
