Why no MAP editor?

Submitted by palimach on Mon, 2007-05-21 08:43. Space Empires V General

Hi all,

I've played SE 4 for about 4 years by now and I loved the MAP editor which has been done by Aaron within the 3th or 4th patch. Why in god's name it's impossible to include a easy-to-use MAP editor in SE 5? I don't wanna edit TXT filens and I do not have any programming skils. I just need an easy MAP editor like I used to have with SE 4. The one with SE 4 was perfect for my needs.

Such a game like SE 5 is almost useless without a simple MAP editor. For the common players it would be great to have one included in the game. I would even pay for it!

So long
palimach

What I'm waiting for is an editor that is polished. I've tried out the one that's available... I can't get it to work. I suppose I'm the only one. Hopefully there will be an official editor, that works on all computers...

SEV, more than a feeling.

I'd rather wait for him to do a map editor fully and perfectly, rather than have him release another unfinished product. His publishers pushed him to release early for SE:V, but there's no one to push the map editor out. Give him time.

More then a month ago I asked about what's happening with a easy-to-use map editor from Aaron, or someone else. Is there already known? Will there be a map editor included in the next patch?

Hi all out there,
Is there still no map editor as the one we used have with SE 4 which I liked pretty much.
I am missing an editor where I can create the planets and starting locations on my own. I have not figured out a program which does this - at least one with an easy-to-use GUI
Any help out there?
Thanks
Palimach

There's actually two map editors with a graphical interface floating around...

It was my impression it was one of those features that was withheld until a Deluxe or Gold version is released. Sorry, I can be a bit of a cynic at times. Smiling

There was actually no intention for an "official" map editor. The map compiler was released so that interested parties could create their own map editors instead, which MM thought would be more helpful based on feedback regarding the SE4 editor.

Too bad there are only two. Though good, they are admittedly less than perfect. Another SE4 feature that didn't make it to SE5. Smiling

They're just a work in progres. I personally perfer RodgerN's map creator.

To give some perspective, they are both generally better than SE4's official map editor.

They're not too bad despite their limitations, though they kind of whet the apetite for more. Smiling
