mothballing facilities |
It would be nice if MM would include some way of mothballing facilities. Perhaps this was just an oversight or maybe there is a deeper philosophical argument against this idea. I dunno.....
I just find it weird that you can mothball a ship but nothing else...........
Maintenance, of course...
Facilities cost maintenance now, remember? I guess there aren't many uses for that though, since most of your resources come from facilities themselves. The only thing I can think of is if the enemy scout ship suddenly blockades one of your planets, and you can't catch it. Then your planet is loosing minerals each turn... but I don't think that happens often enough for a 'mothball facility' command to be important. MM ought to worry more about those fatal game bugs than extra, useless, features imo.

wow I didnt even notice
wow I didnt even notice that, lol whoops

Mothballing them for that reason doesn't make sense either
The extra production goes *poof*, true, but that's the same as if you'd mothballed them. Planets don't lose value so other than the maintence costs there is *no* reason to mothball a facility.
It would be detrimental
It would be detrimental anyway as it costs resources to unmothball thing anyway.

Mineral, Organic and Radioactive Extraction Facilities
It does not make sense to mothball mineral, organic and radioactive extraction facilities as those are what you need to produce the resource to pay the maintence costs of the other facilities.
You missed the point
Why bother fine tuning in that way at all? *There is no benefit*. The ONLY reason to mothball a facility is to save on maintence cost. That's..it.
Player A has 9,000 extra resources, 50,000 in storage. He mothballs three facilites and now has 0 extra resources. Still 50,000 in storage.
Player B has 9,000 extra resourses. He does nothing. Those resources vanish. Still 50,000 in storage.
The end result is exactly the same!
Re: mothballing facilities
If you build a shield generator it costs maintenance if you are at peace it makes sense to mothball it facilities on abandoned planets costs maintenance
Re: mothballing facilities
Yep. And say you're running in the red and lose a spaceport. Be handy to mothball facilities on other planets in that system until you can build a replacement spaceport, right?
This has merit. There are many more important fixes and features we need first, but it's still a good idea.
Re: mothballing facilities
If you have a system gravitational shield generator but want to open a warp point to/from that system it would be handy if you could mothball the facility, open the warp point then fire the shield back up.

Gotta Ask
Why on earth would you want to mothball a facility? It still takes up the space, why wouldn't you want it to fuction as it should?
